a/n: "Y/K/N" stands for "your kid's name"
~~~~~
You jumped when you heard a glass breaking.
please, that it was not my-
"mommy" a little voice said behind you.
You sighed. Of course it had been your kid. You told them not to play with the ball inside the house!
"What happened?" you asked. At least they had the decency to look embarrassed, their little hands behind the back and staring at the ground.
"I was just playing" they said "You said not to play inside and I didn't. I listened. I was good."
You felt your heart melt. How could you be mad at this child? You sighed and smiled, kneeling.
"Okay sweetheart" you said "Just tell me what you broke up"
From the look you got, you knew it was bad. Something expensive? A vase? Window? You opened your eyes to this last thought. Oh no.
"Did you break a window, love?" you asked carefully.
A nod.
Dammit.
Please, at least let it be one of ours.
"Ours?" you asked.
The kid shook the head
Oh no.
"Did you break a neighbor's window, darling?" another nod.
Well, damn it. It wasn't exactly a good first impression. You just moved here and were you going to antagonize someone over a broken window?
"I'm sorry," your child murmured.
You sighed and stood up, taking their hand carefully.
"Come on, you'll have to apologize to the neighbor, okay?"
They nodded and you left the house together. You sighed again when you saw the broken pieces of glass in the house next to yours. No one had heard your prayers, but that didn't stop you from asking for one more.
Please, let it be someone nice.
You knocked on the door and felt your child tense when you heard steps from the other side. The door opened and you were met with a pair of eyes too blue to be of this world. The face they belonged to was beautiful too, and you found yourself too stunned to say anything.
You must have been too obvious, because the woman laughed, snapping you out of your trance.
"Hello, love, can I help you?" she asked casually.
"H-hi" you stuttered "I'm sorry to bother you, it's just that, it seems my child broke one of your windows" you explained
"I'm so sorry, miss" the kid said, looking at the ground.
"Oh so that's what happened" she said cheerfully "I was wondering where this came from"
The woman smiled as she reached for your child's ball. She smiled as she handed it to your child, stroking their cheek in the process.
"Thank you, Miss"
"You're welcome, love" she smiled before turning to you.
"I'm so sorry" you said again "I'll pay for it" you promised
"Oh there's no need, dear" she laughed.
"How can someone have such a cute laugh?" You thought
"By the way, I'm Agatha" she said, holding out her hand
"Y/N" you replied, shaking her hand.
"Beautiful name" she said, then looked at your kid "And the little sweetie?"
"Y/K/N"
"Oh how lovely" she smiled and pinched your child's cheek, making them giggle "I just baked cookies, do you want to come in?"
You blinked. You didn't expect your neighbor to be so kind and beautiful. You expected yells and a fight over the broken window, but no. Agatha was rapidly defying each and every one of your expectations.
"can we mommy?" Y/K/N asked, holding Agatha's hand.
You didn't know when she had given her hand to your kid, but both were looking at you with puppy eyes, so against your better judgment, you accepted, feeling a heat blossoming in your chest when the woman took the child in her arms, talking as if they had known each other for a lifetime.
When they said goodbye later that night, the woman and your child had already passed the barrier of strangers, so Y/K/N did not hesitate to give her a small kiss on the cheek as goodbye, while Agatha pinched their cheeks again fondly.
It was such a cute and adorable scene, and the way she said goodbye to you, with a kiss too close to the corner of your mouth, was enough to make you overlook the fact that the window seemed completely repaired the next day.
