"Kinnick!"
His laughter echoed through his truck as he looked over at me. I could see the sun glistening in his baby blue eyes. Happiness made his skin glow, and right now, he was a beacon of light. Something about the ice cream smacking my face as he tapped his break was hilarious. Currently, we are parked in front of the gym as he struggles to breathe. I wasn't sure how we were after what happened yesterday, but it made me realize the pain doesn't have to last forever.
"You have something on your face," he pointed at me as he clutched his stomach.
"Why are you picking on me?"
"I am your boyfriend," his fingers cupped my thigh. "It's my job."
After last night, I felt closer to him. Everything shifted. The way he looked at me didn't change, though. It was as if I was Bo and not the girl that something happened to. Yet, he hugged me tighter, kissed me longer, and didn't let an hour go by without saying he loved me. I wasn't sure why, but I thought Kinnick would be disgusted with me. After everything came out, it was as if I felt closer to him.
"Go inside and clean off your face," he unlocked the doors. "I'll carry the bags inside."
"Give me a smooch first."
"A smooch? Not with ice cream all over your face."
Without hesitating, I cupped his cheeks and faked leaning in for a kiss before smearing the ice cream on my cheek all over his face. The sticky substance coated his nose, making him gasp out in disbelief as he stared at me.
"Boston Bennett! I am going to kick your ass!"
Just as he was about to grab me, red and blue lights flashed around us. Kinnick murmured curse words behind me as my dad stepped out of his vehicle. I sucked in a deep breath as he came around to Kinnick's window with disgust written on his face.
"Boston Bennett, what are you doing, and what the hell is all over your face?"
My cheeks heated up with embarrassment. "Ice cream."
"Get out of the truck," he snapped.
"Gladly," I looked toward Kinnick. "I'll meet you inside."
"Excuse me?" My dad snapped.
Without hesitating, I walked inside the gym to find John. The boxers training around me waved as I walked through the building, trying to find the green-eyed man with a smile on his face. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion as I heard someone talking inside John's office. It wasn't until I walked past his door that I saw John kissing one of the guys who helped train. A smile tugged at my lips as I snuck off toward the bathroom without another word.
"Bo!"
My body whipped around to see John. "Yeah?"
"What did you see?"
"Nothing that was any of my business," I shrugged. "I need to go change."
"You don't care?"
"Why would I care?"
He sucked in a deep breath. "Well, it is another guy -"
"You don't question Kinnick and me kissing."
"It is different -"
"I don't know why."
"I like him," he sighs. "Just don't tell anyone. Kinnick is the only other person who knows."
"I promise," I cross my heart. "You have my word."
"Thank you, Bo," he sighed. "Truly."
My shoulder tipped upward. "We would do anything for the ones we love."
