The moment we stepped onto his patio, he shoved me into the siding of his house. I sucked in a deep breath, telling myself not to drop him in front of Bo. She didn't need to be in the middle of an altercation or see me the way she did the night I hit Luke. I closed my eyes tightly as I straightened out my jacket.
He ran a finger through his hair. "What were you thinking? We all have deep records."
"Who do you think she is?" I stared at him as if he had lost his fucking mind. "She isn't wearing a wire because no one is interested in what you do with your day. She is here to roast marshmallows and hang out with everybody."
"If she finds out about the shit we did and says something, I swear -"
My fingers caught him by his throat before pulling him toward me. "The words you say next better be chosen very fucking carefully."
"What is your deal?" He snapped. "She is some random girl -"
"And if you threaten that random girl, you won't live to see tomorrow. Do I make myself clear?"
I let him loose as he grew agitated. "She shouldn't be here, and you know it."
"Drop it," I snarled.
"Why are you hanging out with Seth's kid anyway? After all of the shit he put you through -"
"Do I need to cut your tongue out?" My fingers raked through my hair. "I am more worried about shit slipping through your mouth."
"You love chasing things you can't have, and that is the only reason you are so far up her ass!"
"Everything I wanted, I've got."
"Seth won't let that happen."
"Then tell me why she is here."
Bo's laughter filled the air. The melody sent shivers down my spine. I turned away from Trevor as her happiness told me to walk away. All I wanted to know was what she was laughing at. The man behind me didn't matter, and neither did his problems.
"You like her, don't you?" He said with disbelief. "That is what all of this is about, isn't it? You fucking like the girl. A cop's fucking daughter."
"Fuck off," I threw up my hand, walking away.
Trevor followed me as I walked toward the curly-haired girl. She perked up at the sight of us walking back to her, and I wondered if that excitement had to do with me. Did she enjoy my company enough that her toes curled? Her caramel eyes widened as she patted the spot next to her.
"Come listen to my jokes!"
Trevor spoke first. "We are all ears, love."
Miles leaned into me. "Is everything okay?"
"I would take care of it if it weren't," I leaned back into my chair.
I knew he had more questions, but he trusted what I said. Trevor wasn't a person to fear, and I wouldn't make moves according to his opinion. I'll put him in his place before he tries to talk down to Bo.
When I looked at the curly-haired girl trying to explain her joke that nobody understood, I knew I would switch up on my friends if they tried anything against Bo. Trevor can be pissed off, but he wouldn't put me in the situation where I'd have to fight him if he were a real friend. My loyalty ran deep, and I made a promise to Bo.
Bryce switched the subject as they talked about high school. "Did we have classes together? You look so familiar."
Bo's head moved back and forth. "I don't think so."
