The silence of the day was deafening when a ring started to destroy that silence. Umungol siya upang gisingin ang katabi.
"Brad.."
"Hmmm.."
"Someone's calling." she whispered against his ear.
Nakapikit lamang ito habang inaabot sa mula sa tokador ang sariling cellphone.
"Hello." he whispered against the phone.
Iilang segundong natahimik ang buong silid. Before she knew it, napaigtad siya sa biglang pagbangon nito.
"Brad?"
Sa kabila ng inaantok na mga mata ay napansin niya ang labis na gulat at kalungkutang namutawi sa mga mata ng katabi. Mabilis na rin siyang bumangon at agad itong hinarap.
"What's wrong?"
"Jules, my parents."
"What happened?" biglang lumakas ang kabog ng dibdib niya.
"They died in an accident."
She could feel her face flush. She has an idea that Anton would make a move. But she didn't know he'd go that far. Nagkamali ba siya ng desisyon?
"Brad."
Bigla ay hindi na niya ito naririning pa. He stood up, fixed himself silently.
"Brad! Talk to me."
"I need to go to the hospital Juls."
"Brad. I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what?"
"I.. I think I may have an idea who did this."
"Ano'ng ibig mo'ng sabihin?"
"I overheard Anton one time while I was having lunch. He was planning on making a move to fully own the company. I..."
Sumalubong sa kanya angnang-aarok na tingin mula kay Brad.
"What are you trying to say?"
"What I'm saying is.."
"Are you accusing my brother of killing our own parents?"
"I'm... I'm not sure.."
"Then don't say anything you will regret Juls! Sapat nang bigla kang sumipot muli sa buhay namin and grab your company back again. But I can't listen to you accuse my brother this way."
"But.."
"I'll talk to you when I get back."
Napaigting pa siya ng pabalibag nitong isinara ang pinto.
Something about today would end up screwing everything they have. Ngayon siya nagsisisi. She should have told him about Anton's plans.
But would he ever believe her?
What does she do now?
She dialed a number and waited for the other line to pick up.
"Babe, it's the middle of the night. What's up?" he sounded groggy over the phone. She must have woke him up.
"It's Brad. Something happened." she's on the verge of breaking down.
Bago pa man siya muling makaimik ay nawala na ito sa kabilang linya. It was then that she realized, her hands are trembling. Her mind is in an overdrive and she knows no other way of knowing how she can alleviate the worry she's feeling at the moment.
Would it have been better if she told him?
