Two hours later, the train slows to a stop and we grab our luggage and stagger out of our seats. Finn falls face first onto the linoleum as soon as he stands up. Angel does a sort of dance before following her brother down. I use the suitcases as crutches and slowly make my way out onto the platform.
I see a couple that looks like the photographs Dad showed us. I point them out to the boys. The couple sees us looking at them and they come over. The woman says, "Ray and Finn Rivera?" The boys nod. "I'm Cathrin Geneva and this is my husband, Peter."
"I'm Finn and this is Ray," Finn says. "And these are my sisters, Topaz, Angel, and Anemone."
"Well boys," Peter begins. "Would you like to go to our house now?" The boys nod.
I hug Ray tell him, "Don't forget about home." He smiles meekly and hugs the girls.
Then Finn comes to me and says solemnly, "Watch the girls. Make sure nothing happens to them."
I nod and hug him tightly.
Then they are taken away.
I turn to Angel and Nemmy. "Okay, girls. It's just you and me." I grab Angel's hand and with my other am pulling the suitcase which Nemmy is sitting on.
Soon we're outside and a bunch of taxi cabs are lined up. I quickly find the one with the licence plate TFRAA19 and the driver puts our suitcase in the trunk while we climb in.
Twenty minutes later, we're going through customs and checking in our luggage. Soon we're sitting on the plane, flying. I think about everything I left behind. My family, my friends, my life. I'm missing out on my childhood. But it's not about me anymore. It's about Angel and Nemmy.
I sleep for the rest of the flight, but am woken up when I feel the wheels come out. After claiming our luggage, we walk out on to the ramp where the Cordova's will be waiting. Angel points out a couple holding a large sign that says, Welcome Home Topaz, Angel, and Anemone! We walk up to them. "Mr and Mrs Cordova?" I ask.
"Please, call me Steven," the man says.
"And I'm Jaclyn," the woman says.
"I'm Topaz, and this is Angel and Nemmy." I say, extending my hand which Steven shakes.
"We'll get better introduced in the car." Steven takes my suitcase and I take Angel and Nemmy's hands in mine.
