Diary of a Mermaid

The written report

I wake up to the sound of silence. I'm no longer tired, so I wrap my robe around my body, slide on my pink and black slippers, twist my hair into a top knot, and splash cold water on my face in the bathroom before heading downstairs.

I see Finn eating cereal at the bar. "Hey," I say softly. He pulls out the stool next to him as a gesture to sit. I comply after making myself a fruit salad.

Finn says, "So you and Theo are okay,"

I look over at him. The way he said that as a statement and not as a question confuses me. "What makes you say that?"

"When you and him were calling the AWLASS, I may have walked in to see what was take so long."

I drop my fork. I'm about to swear him to secrecy, but before I can, he says, "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. He's a good guy, Topaz."

I reach over and hug Finn, but end up falling off the barstool and onto the floor. I'm lying on the ground in a fit of giggles when Cat walks in. "Do I even want to know?" she asks.

I shake my head, still laughing. She takes a seat at the kitchen table. "So the ALWASS interviewed Ray at the hospital. They got some incredible information."

"How? He was unconscious," Finn states.

"They used some type of brain scanner. It showed them exactly what happened in the past month."

"Wow, thats really cool." I say.

"What did they see?" Finn inquires.

She hands me what I presume is the written report.

8. The Cordova's and Rivera females leave for Stratford, Ontairo.
9. Victim is reading in his bedroom alone when unidentified male enters through open window and stabs victim with chloroform needle
10. Victim awakes in bunker below the house
11. Victim remains in bunker for four days. No food is consumed
12. Victim is injected with chloroform again and taken to a bunker in Toronto, Ontario
13. Victim escapes after being in the bunker for three days. He wanders around the city for one hour before he is found by a police man who gives him food and buys him a train ticket to Stratford. Victim remembers the conversation over breakfast with the Cordova's and Rivera girls.
14. Victim walks around city until he finds the house that Steven Cordova showed them.
15. Victim is found by child runaway, Anemone Rivera, sister of victim.
16. Victim falls unconscious in a red wagon.

"Wow, just wow." I say, dumbfounded, handing the paper to Finn.

"Is he gonna be okay?" Finn asks.

"He was starved for nearly a week. And has a minor concussion, four broken ribs, and a sprained knee. But he will recover in time. They'll let him come home next Thursday."

"That's good!" I say enthusiastically

She smiles. "Yes it is,"
