I wake up an two hours later after having a nightmare about the guy from this morning. Wherever I turned, his face was there.
I turn to Jaclyn who's reading a magazine beside me. "What are we gonna do when we get to Miami?" I ask.
"Well, Steven will call the Atlantan Land Walkers Association Security Squad, or the ALWASS. They will find us a new house in a different city as soon as possible."
"So roughly how long will we be in Miami?"
"I don't know. Probably less than a week."
"Passengers, please fasten your seat-belts. We are beginning our descent to Miami International Airport. Stewardesses, please take your seats." the intercom announces.
"Jaclyn?" I look at her with curiosity in my eyes.
She turns to me. "Yes, Honey?"
"Why did you decide to take us in? Look at your life. You had a great job, a beautiful home, why?" I ask.
She gets a pained expression on her face. Then her eyes get foggy, as if she's having a flashback. She looks back at me and smiles. "I wanted another chance."
I would've asked another chance for what, but the look on her face, the emotion. She's been through a lot.
We can feel the plane descending and the wheels pop out. Then we touch down.
We leave immediately after exiting the plane, for America has its customs back at your prior destination. Steven rents us a car and puts tape over the security cameras in the mirror. "You can take your wigs off now." he tells us. We shed our disguises
Jaclyn pulls out her phone and calls and dials a number.
"Who are you calling?" I ask.
"The Geneva's." The Geneva's and Cordova's were introduced to each other via Skype right after they had signed the fostering papers. "Cathrin?" Jaclyn says into the phone. "It's Jaclyn Cordova. Pause Um, not so good, actually. Pause No, we're fine, but our house was broken into by the Poseidonians this afternoon and we evacuated. We are in Miami right now. Is it okay if we- Pause Thank you so much. What's your address? Pause. 3 Kathleen...K-A-T-H..." She writes it down on a pad of paper while holding the phone between her shoulder and ear. "Okay, thanks again. Bye."
"What's the address?" Steven asks, glancing over at her.
"3 Kathleen Crescent."
Steven pulls his phone out if his pocket and taps the screen a bit. Directions will begin when you join the highlighted route.
He starts the car and we pull out of the lot.
