Chapter 30

Kane drove the car while Marcus sat in the passenger seat, leaving Aika and Zen in the back seat.

They weren't saying anything to each other. The four of them were engulfed in a deafening silence. It was awkward for the two at the front because they felt like they were trapped with a couple in a silent war.

Nakatingin lamang si Aika sa labas at ganoon din si Zen na walang imik.

"Where to?" Tanong ni Kane na bumasag sa katahimikan.

"My house."

"My parents."

Kane sighed. Halos sabay na nagsalita ang mag-asawa ngunit magkaibang lugar ang sinabi nito.

"Do what she said." Zen said.

Kane tsked. Nagpatuloy na lamang ito sa pagmamaneho hanggang sa makarating sila sa bahay ng mga magulang ni Aika.

"Thank you." Aika said bago ito dire-diretsong bumaba ng sasakyan.

"Fuck!" Zen muttered a curse. He was extremely unhappy with their arrangement.

"Your situation is fuck up." Marcus commented.

Zen couldn't take it any longer, so he got out of the car and followed Aika inside.

Nasa garden pa lamang ito nang maabutan niya kaya naman kaagad niyang hinawakan ang braso nito.

"We need to talk." He said.

Aika, on the other hand, only looked at him. She was deafeningly quiet. She just stood there staring at him.

"What's your plan? I need to know so that I can make an adjustment because this is seriously screwed up. You're my wife, but I can't even spend time with you without your confirmation of my text messages. You don't want to live with me, and you're seeing another guy without telling me. Why? Why are you doing this? "

Zen fixed his gaze on his wife. His frustration could be seen and heard in the tone of his voice and the expression on his face.

"Don't you want to be with me again? Do you want him? You seemed so happy with him while you're so cold and distant with me. Please... tell me what do you want me to do? Tell me and I would do it. You know that I love you. I never stopped loving you, so tell me what you want and I would do it in a heartbeat just to make you happy—"

"What if I want an annulment?" Aika asked.

Akala niya ngayong nakabalik na ito ay magiging okay na ang lahat. Akala niya ay masaya ito na makakasama siya... dahil siya? Gustong gusto niyang makasama ang asawa.

Pero baka siya na lang pala ang may gusto non? Baka ayaw na nito. Baka hindi naman siya kasama sa gustong balikan nito?

"Do you.... really want that?" He inquired, his gaze fixed on Aika.

Aika shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not sure. Maybe. You said you'd do anything I wanted... are you willing to set me free?"

Zen smiled painfully. He didn't expect Aika to ask him for freedom after the years they spent apart.

"I... I..." Zen couldn't find the right words to say. He was in pain.

He wants to go and hide. He wanted to unhear what Aika asked him. He wanted to pretend it wasn't true. Because why would she want freedom?
