The journey to the family house was eerily quiet.
The alpha siblings sat side by side in the car, their usual lively banter absent. The air between them was heavy, an unspoken tension lingering like a storm cloud.
It was close to 6 p.m. when the family driver picked them up, and by the time they reached the gated subdivision owned by the Kwons, the clock struck nearly 8. The Kwons ruled this place, their name synonymous with influence and power.
Their family was renowned, not just for their standing but for the warm hospitality they extended to guests. They embodied the ideals of an alpha-run household, headed by a driven alpha father and an equally dedicated beta mother. Their parenting style was supportive and empowering, encouraging their children to chase their dreams—except for one unyielding rule: They must marry an omega deemed suitable by their parents and start a family.
This singular mandate weighed on them like chains around their necks.
As soon as they stepped into the grand foyer, their mother, Heeyeon, greeted them with her usual warmth.
"Ah, you're finally here!" she beamed, pulling both her children into a tight embrace. "Is it just me, or have you two grown taller? And, Soonyoung, your hair!"
"Fans love it," Soonyoung chuckled, his tone light. "Do you know Harin's gaining popularity too?"
"Of course I do!" Heeyeon exclaimed, her smile widening as she turned to her daughter. "And I heard you choreographed for your brother. Are you happy with how it turned out, my dear?"
Harin nodded, a small but genuine smile gracing her lips. "I'm more than happy, Mom."
"Then I'm happy too." Heeyeon's hand gently rubbed her daughter's back before she gestured for them to follow her. "Come now; your father's waiting."
The siblings exchanged a look—one that silently communicated the need to brace themselves.
They walked toward the dining room, steps measured and thoughts guarded.
The dining table radiated opulence, but the atmosphere was anything but inviting. The silence was punctuated only by the clinking of utensils.
Soonyoung broke the quiet. "How was the flight, Dad?"
"Good," their father, Sooyong, replied curtly. "You two should try the airline I take. They offer exceptional service."
Soonyoung nodded. "I'll keep that in mind."
Sooyong shifted his attention. "Your group just had a comeback, didn't you?"
"Yes, we're still promoting until the end of the month."
"Mhm. Any dates?"
Here it comes.
The siblings' eyes met, and Soonyoung gave Harin a reassuring smile before turning back to their father.
"None," he said simply.
Sooyong raised a skeptical brow. "Why not? Surely, your dating ban has been lifted by now."
