Standing among a large group of family members was something Lee Jeno never imagined he'd experience, let alone enjoy. His instincts as a pureblood alpha kicked in as he stood slightly apart, his eyes roving over the crowd. He carefully observed the busy figures, trying to memorize faces, distinguish secondary genders through scents, and decipher the hidden nuances of their auras.
To an outsider, Jeno might have looked like a spy, silently and methodically assessing everyone.
"Wise choice," a warm, confident voice cut through his focus, drawing his attention to a tan, brunette woman approaching him. She carried herself with an air of authority, yet her demeanor was friendly. Harin stood beside her, smiling.
The woman extended her hand with a small smile. "Kwon Yuri."
Jeno took her hand in a firm handshake. "Lee Jeno."
"Yul is a pure alpha too," Harin added casually.
"Mhm, don't worry," Yuri said with a wink, ruffling Jeno's hair in a sisterly gesture. "We'll get along just fine. The others are by the pool—you should introduce him to them, Harin."
"Of course," Harin replied, nodding before watching Yuri stride off. Turning to Jeno, she added apologetically, "Sorry for leaving you earlier. The adults are... a bit too talkative."
Jeno chuckled softly. "It's fine. I trust I'm safe here, right?"
Harin rolled her eyes playfully and looped her arm through his. "Obviously. You're with me. The cousins are great; you'll get along with them easily. Only two of them are omegas, and the rest are alphas."
"And the parents?"
Harin's reassuring smile faltered for a second before she smirked. "They can be... intense. But all you have to do is be the perfect pure alpha."
As if flipping a switch, Jeno's warm smile faded. His face became unreadable, his posture rigid, and his demeanor exuded the icy confidence expected of an alpha.
Harin couldn't suppress a chuckle at the transformation. "Perfect," she whispered approvingly, and with that, they ventured to meet the family.
The parents remained indoors, deep in their own conversations and debates, while the cousins gathered at the expansive backyard pool.
Jeno took it all in—the sprawling estate, the laughter echoing across the grounds, and the ease with which the family interacted. He had already committed their faces and names to memory, silently grateful for his alpha-enhanced recall. Judging by the warmth in their interactions and the absence of any overt hostility, Jeno felt he'd passed some unspoken test.
The family seemed impressed—or at the very least, unbothered—by him. His status as a pure alpha certainly helped, granting him a natural respect that few dared to challenge.
For now, Jeno sat on a shaded bench, watching the lively group. It was almost surreal to see the cousins, who had exuded cold, commanding energy earlier, now acting like carefree children. Omegas squealed with delight as they splashed water, while alphas laughed loudly, the air filled with competitive banter.
The warm, familial atmosphere put Jeno at ease in a way he hadn't expected.
"Please tell me no one burst your bubble while I was gone," Harin's voice pulled him from his thoughts.
