The first month of summer had passed, bringing with it a strange calm. Some alphas, like Jeno, were slowly regaining the ability to venture outdoors, though their heightened sensitivity to the heat still lingered. Most of the alpha population remained inactive, their cycles taming them in ways they resented. However, the world beyond their walls told a darker tale—street fights, assaults, and accidental pregnancies were on the rise. The chaos of alpha aggression in the heat season was a grim reminder of why Jeno refused to let Harin leave.

"I can fight," Harin declared firmly, arms crossed as she stood in front of him.

"Yea, no," Jeno responded flatly, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.

She rolled her eyes, frustration bubbling under her skin. "You're being overprotective."

"If it means keeping you safe from that madness out there, then I'll wear the title with pride."

"Jeno, I'm an alpha!" she argued, her voice tinged with exasperation.

"Exactly. That's even more reason to keep you here," he said without missing a beat. "This season messes with everyone's heads, Harin. Alphas out there won't hold back, and one might throw a punch at you just for existing."

She groaned audibly, trying to soften his rigid stance. "I have to be there. It's not optional."

"The singer you're backing up has a whole entourage of dancers. Let them find someone else," Jeno replied, turning his back on her, his annoyance palpable.

"Jeno!"

He snapped around, his patience visibly fraying. "What?"

Harin immediately recognized the storm brewing in his eyes. She sighed, stepping closer to him. Her voice softened, disarming him as she wrapped her arms around his torso.

"We really need to control our emotions," she murmured.

Jeno let out a chuckle, his body relaxing slightly as he hugged her back. "Sorry. This season's really testing my temper."

"I get it," she replied with a small smile.

"So," he teased, leaning down slightly to meet her eyes, "no Mark Lee?"

"Fine. I'll call the company," she grumbled, rolling her eyes.

"Good girl," he grinned, his smugness evident.

She huffed and stepped away, reaching for her phone. Before she could open her manager Maze's contact, her screen lit up with an incoming call.

"Soonyoung?"

"Answer it," Jeno whispered, his lips brushing against her neck in a gesture both comforting and maddening.

Harin slid the button to answer, holding the phone to her ear.

"Hey," she greeted.

[Hey, emergency,] Soonyoung's voice was laced with urgency.

Her brows furrowed, concern creeping into her tone. "Do you need help?"

[No, it's about you.]

Her stomach dropped. "Me? What's going on?"

[Are you still in a sensitive cycle?]
