The atmosphere at the table was stifling, thick with unspoken words and underlying tension. None of them had anticipated this moment—a gathering that felt less like old friends reuniting and more like strangers forced into proximity.
They ate in near silence. The two alphas occasionally exchanged sharp glances, while the omega shifted his focus between them, clearly fishing for a conversation to break the awkwardness.
Harin hated this. This wasn't how things used to be.
She feared the fragile threads of their friendship snapping under the weight of unspoken emotions. One dinner, and she could already sense the impending goodbyes.
"We should go on vacation!" Jaemin blurted out, his voice cheerful but clearly masking a deeper desire to steer the mood somewhere lighter.
Harin snapped out of her thoughts, her attention drawn to the suggestion, as did Jeno, though his expression was less enthused.
"It's still spring," Jeno pointed out, ever the voice of reason.
"But I'm fine!" Jaemin insisted, his gummy smile lighting up his face.
"For now. You know seasonal cycles are unpredictable, especially for omegas," Jeno retorted, shooting him a pointed look. "We can't risk it."
Jaemin pouted dramatically, glancing at Harin as though she'd side with him. "But—"
"No," she cut in, her tone firm.
Jaemin's pout deepened, his shoulders slumping. "You two are so boring."
Jeno chuckled, the sound low and amused. "You're just upset because you didn't get your way."
"I am upset!" Jaemin whined. "I just want my mind off things."
"Then take a proper break. Rest at home," Harin suggested, her voice softening.
"But I want to hang out with you guys! Isn't that clear?" His wide, pleading eyes darted between the two of them.
Jeno clicked his tongue, his jaw tightening. "And we said no."
Jaemin crossed his arms and grumbled. "When I said you two should get along, I didn't mean you'd team up to reject every idea I have."
"We're not rejecting you, Nana," Harin explained patiently. "We just can't risk you being affected by the season. You'll be more vulnerable outdoors."
Jaemin's expression shifted to one of defiance, his lips curling into a sly smile. "Then let's go somewhere private—a resort or something."
Jeno let out an exasperated sigh. "Doesn't anyone ever say no to you?"
The omega tilted his head with a mischievous grin, pointing at himself. "I'm spoiled to the core, and I love it."
"And you're proud of that," Harin teased, shaking her head. "But no, Nana. I can't. I have to work with a new guy soon, so my schedule's packed."
The sudden mention of a new guy caught Jeno's attention, his gaze narrowing. "New guy?" His tone was casual, but the jealousy in his eyes was undeniable.
Harin almost smirked at how transparent he was. If their relationship wasn't supposed to be a secret, she'd have called him out right there. Instead, she played along.
