Y/N was with Natasha looking out at the city from the helicarrier. Natasha was watching him as he remembered his whole time at the orphanage, the years of childhood that were robbed from him, his soul corrupted by the horrors. She put her arm on his shoulder as he looked to her.

"What's wrong kiddo?"

"Nothing mama. Just thinking." Y/N said as Nat pulled a 'wow' face.

"And what was my baby thinking." Nat asked ruffling his hair.

"I want to be like a normal child, go to school and stuff like that. I don't want the orphanage to win, but it...it feels like they've won already.

"They haven't. Because you, you're a Romanoff, you know your real mother, that's a luxury I never had. You know your name, and that...that's something nobody can ever take from you, so if you ever find yourself questioning if they won, remember who you are, and that you survived when most would have died. You've won just by living." Natasha said as she hugged her son. "Come on, let's go see your uncle Birdseye."

Y/N nodded and followed Natasha to find Clint.

"I'm proud of you kid...so proud." Natasha said as Y/N looked to her like the words were alien to him.

...8 years later
