An hour had passed since the duel, and Y/N was back to strategizing for every possibility. Natasha was looking at him, watching him throwing himself into work. Punishing himself physically and mentally for something that was out of his hands. She watched as he tried his best to hide his finger tapping on the desk whenever anyone mentioned the snap or when he got nervous. FRIDAY was providing a constant stream of data to aid him, but she was also making sure to talk to him, give him company. She was one of Y/N's only living friends right now outside of his family, and they were both conscious of that fact.

As the hours crawled by Natasha left, heading to see Steve, she couldn't bare to keep watching Y/N in the condition that he was in, closed off, broken.

That night, when the rest of the Avengers were asleep, Y/N was stood on the roof of the compound keeping watch, with FRIDAY sat nearby talking to him.

"You really think they're coming don't you?" FRIDAY said in a concerned tone.

"Not that it matters what I think, but...yes, I think they're coming back. They always do." Y/N said calmly.

"You could have just handed me over, it would have averted the war possibly." FRIDAY said as Y/N turned to her.

"They would have used you to destroy us all. I was doing my duty." Y/N said coldly as FRIDAY gave a look, she didn't believe that duty was the only motivation for him.

"Thank you anyway." FRIDAY answered as Y/N nodded without a word before turning back to look out at the night sky. He was keeping an eye out for anything that could be a covenant force.

Morning dawned as Natasha headed up to the roof to find Y/N was asleep and FRIDAY was sat next to him, looking out at the sky for anything that was a covenant threat. Natasha smiled at FRIDAY looking out for Y/N when he wasn't looking out for himself. The silence of dawn was peaceful, Natasha walked alongside FRIDAY and looked out over New York.

"Beautiful, isn't it? The city at dawn. When he was younger and he'd had a rough night, Y/N would come up here and look out over the city, watching the sun come up. Now, I'm not sure he has a gentle night, from what I've seen, he's pushing himself to find a way to bring her back...to bring them all back." Natasha said as FRIDAY nodded.

"He's had me keeping an eye out for any way to bring them all back. I hate that I lead him on but it's the only thing that's keeping him alive right now. He needs that hope." FRIDAY admitted to Natasha.

"And we're sure as shit gonna need him if we wanna win against the covenant." Natasha said as she heard Y/N move, she turned to see him waking up. "Morning kiddo. How'd you sleep?"

"I slept, so better than usual." Y/N answered before walking over to join Natasha and FRIDAY in looking out over the city.

Then the peace and serenity of the beautiful morning, was shattered by the sounds of engines. Y/N looked up to see a covenant supercarrier. Ships began to descend from the carrier.

"FRIDAY, get everyone to battle stations. Mom, suit up!" Y/N ordered as he ran to his assault rifle that was leaning against the vent he slept against, he picked up the assault rifle and took position as Covenant and Chitauri forces came in using Banshee's and Chariots. Y/N was using his rifle to take out the chariots while Tony and Rhodey took flight in their suits to take down the banshees. FRIDAY transferred into the chip in Y/N's helmet.

"Boss, on your left!"  FRIDAY called out, Y/N turned to his left and shot a chariot down that was rushing at Tony from his blind spot.

"Thanks kid." Tony called out over the coms.

"Y/N, you got a bogie coming in on your six." Rhodey called out as Y/N turned to see Sal'Loeb landing on the roof and activating his sword. Y/N knew the sword would block bullets, he put his rifle on his back and took his stance in the fight.

Sal'Loeb went for and attack and Y/N dodged it and punched him three times but to little effect, he tried to headbutt the alien but the alien was wearing new armour, everything he tried to do had no effect. Y/N went to throw a punch but Sal'Loeb kicked him in the chest sending him flying back, the FRIDAY chip was knocked from Y/Ns helmet and landed at the feet of an Elite Zealot that had landed next to Loeb.

"Wut wut wut wut." Y/N looked up and saw the Elite holding the FRIDAY chip.

"Get your hands off of her you split-lip bastard!" Y/N growled as he attacked the Elite and grabbed the chip before kicking the zealot off of the compound roof. Y/N turned to see Loeb with his sword in mid swing, he ducked under the attack just in time and rolled past the Chitauri warrior, when he stood up Y/N inserted the FRIDAY chip back into his helmet and performed a punch combo on Loeb before throwing the alien over his shoulder. Loeb stood up and punched Y/N with an uppercut before headbutting him, Y/N went for another punch but Loeb caught the punch and tried to crush Y/N's fist, only for nothing to happen. Sal'loeb punched Y/N to the floor and pinned him down before reaching down and yanking the FRIDAY chip from the back of Y/N's helmet. Y/N went to fight back but his helmet was ripped off and he was punched over and over until he blacked out.

"Come on, babe. Get up, you need to get up." Wanda said as Y/N looked up at her ghostly figure, she reached her hand out to Y/N, he took her hand and she pulled him to his feet.

Y/N turned to look at Sal'Loeb beginning to walk away, he charged the alien and tackled Loeb to the floor, he began to beat up the chitauri but noting was happening. A punch came in on Y/N's right temple, the force of the punch sending Y/N falling onto his side another barrage of punches landed on the dazed Y/N, sending him to the floor again only for Loeb to kick him in the side of the head and then knock him out by slamming Y/N's head into the floor. Just before Y/N lost consciousness he saw Loeb walk away with the FRIDAY chip in his hand as he boarded a ship and left, leaving the unconscious body of Y/N on the roof of the Avengers Compound, Sal'Loebs mission was complete...
