Chapter 35| Torture

The news of Wang Lei's had been poison spread like wildfire in the palace. Wang Lei was getting treated inside while everyone came running to wait for him outside his chamber. The atmosphere was tense. Huang Dewei was equally panicked as he was standing in the corner when they saw guards coming toward them in line after another. They were all confused as they looked toward the guards since their presence was not allowed here while they stopped in front of Huang Dewei.

'Huang Dewei, you are under arrest for giving poison to the Emperor of Wang Dynasty.' One of the guards announced and Huang Dewei was shocked so were the others.

'What do you mean?' Huang Dewei asked terrified and panicked when guards moved aside and Li Qiang (Minister of war) entered inside and stopped in front of him.

'Why do you look shocked? His Majesty drank from your room and got the poison. It had something to do with you.' Li Qiang said as Huang Dewei felt everything spinning around him

'I would never do that...It was not me.' Huang Dewei said in his defence while Xin Ying was equally shocked and does not believe that Huang Dewei would do something like this, Ai Cong was surprised and confused while Chen Ju was secretly happy. Wang Wei just stood there listening to them but his anger was boiling that someone tried to kill his son.

'We will investigate that further. For you, you are the only suspect.' Li Qiang explained to him but Huang Dewei quickly shook away his head

'It was not me...a cook from the canteen gave me that bottle...you can ask my friend Qi Zixin...he was with me...he can be my witness.' Huang Dewei said in his plea as he was completely shocked and shattered by the whole situation. What was happening to him? Wang Lei was inside half-dead while he was getting accused of his attempted murder? Huang Dewei thought completely not understanding the politics behind the whole thing. Xin Ying saw the whole situation and quickly walked toward her father.

'Father, I think there is a misunderstanding...Shall we wait for Wang Lei to wake up and take his decision?' Xin Ying said to her father and Li Qiang snapped looked toward his daughter and glared at her

'The matter you know nothing about, don't put yourself in them...he tried to kill your husband and you are taking his side...Have you lost your mind?' Li Qiang said as he scolded his daughter and Xin Ying embarrassed shook away her head

'Leave this matter to me.' Li Qiang said to his daughter and Xin Ying nodded her head and walked away. She looked towards Huang Dewei with sympathy but helplessly looked away.

'I did not do it...you can't do that me to when you have no proof.' Huang Dewei tried saying in his defence when Wang Wei walked towards him and slapped him across the face. Huang Dewei as well others shocked looked toward him.

'How dare you? My son showed some softness to you and you think of yourself above all of us when you are just a cheap slave...take him away and get the truth out of him in whatever way you can use.' Wang Wei gave the order to Li Qiang who respectfully bowed down and nodded his head. As the previous Emperor of the nation, if Wang Lei would not available, his orders were valued the most.

'I...did not...do it.' Huang Dewei said in the same strong tone even after the humiliation while keeping his ground and in response, he received another slap from Wang Wei.

'Shut up...take him away right away. You have committed a treasure against this nation and deserve the cruellest and harshest punishment.' Wang Wei screamed said and the guard quickly got hold of him and despite his pleading, they pulled him out. 

They walked and take him inside the torture room and started their torment and punishment. Huang Dewei was tied down upside down and was beaten with a wooden stick on his back and legs. The room echoed with his screams but there was no one who would listen to his screams. He was tortured for hours to accept that he poisoned Wang Lei which he never accepted. They used another technique where they tied him with the chair and put hot coals under his feet...his feet were burned...he was not given water and food...he was repeatedly beaten without providing any medicine as days slowly passed.
