After the meeting, Avneet was asked to leave. Visiting hours were over—only guardians were allowed to stay.
She waved softly at Siddharth before leaving with Rohan.
Siddharth watched them go, jaw tight, clearly not liking it one bit.
Abhishek and Vaishnavi exchanged a look—and burst out laughing.
“Jealous much?” Vaishnavi teased.
As Rohan drove them home, Avneet suddenly stiffened.
“Rohan… that car behind us looks suspicious.”
“Where?” he asked, glancing at the rearview mirror.
A second later—
“Oh shit. Someone’s following us."
Avneet’s stomach dropped.
She already knew who it was.
“Well… what now?” she asked quietly.
Rohan exhaled. “Let them chase.”
He pressed the accelerator.
The car behind them immediately sped up too—no more hiding.
“Great,” Rohan muttered. “They’re serious.”
Thinking quickly, he turned the car toward the road leading to the police station.
For a few tense seconds, the chase continued—
Then suddenly… the car behind slowed down.
And turned away.
Silence.
Rohan leaned back, letting out a breath. “Damn… that was probably Ashi.”
Avneet placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Smart move. You saved us.”
He smirked slightly. “Obviously.”
After taking a longer, safer route, they finally reached home.
THE NEXT MORNING
While having breakfast, Avneet received a call.
“Hello?” she answered, confused.
“Hello, Miss Avneet,” the officer spoke. “We’ve caught Ashi. The car that followed you yesterday was traced back to her. We’re sorry for the inconvenience—but you’re safe now.”
Relief washed over her.
“Thank you so much.”
She hung up and immediately called Siddharth.
“Sid—”
“I already know,” he cut her off. “Your so-called best friend Rohan told me everything.”
Avneet smiled softly.
“Don’t call him so-called. And… thank you. For protecting me even when you weren’t there.”
“It’s my duty, Miss Avneet Kaur,” he replied playfully.
“When are you getting discharged?”
"Tomorrow."
“I’ll come visit you in the evening then—”
“No,” he interrupted gently. “You need rest more than I do. I’ll come see you after I’m discharged. I promise.”
Her heart melted at the way he said it.
"I love you," she whispered.
“I love you more,” he replied.
