It was dark

It was dark. Pitch black. Like I was absolutely nowhere, but I felt carpet under my knees and then slowly light beamed from far away. I blinked my eyes as it got brighter and the form of a woman walked towards me. I couldn't get up. It was like I was glued down to my spot from wherever I was.

The woman looked like my mother the closer she got. Long curly hair, the sharp shape of her face, and then slowly I could see the color of her eyes. Hazel with specks of green.

My mother.

I tried to get up and run towards her, but I couldn't move. I tried to call out to her, but my voice was stuck in my throat. Inside I was going crazy, but my body was still.

It wasn't until she got close to me and kneeled down that I got a fresh intake of air. My voice came back  and I was able to move.

My surroundings weren't black anymore. I was in my childhood house. Everything was burned and it felt cold. Really cold.

"Elisia" my mothers voice sent pain to my chest. She wrapped her arms around me and it was like the piece of me that went missing was finally being repaired.

I wasn't a little girl. I was my twenty three year old self.

My mother pulled back and looked me in my eyes. Except this time she looked sad. "I'm sorry" she apologized, tears forming in her beautiful eyes.

"I'm sorry for everything"

"It's- it's okay" I whispered my voice was breaking. Her soft hands left my face and my mother stood up and I stood after her.

"Promise me you'll try to step away from this life when you're done" she said, her voice sounding so far away but yet she was so close.

I was confused, confused on why she was telling me this. Step away from what?

"I love you Elisia, I will always love you. I want you to be happy and when you're done with this you make sure you're happy" she said, tears strolling down her face.

"This wasn't the life I planned for you, but you could fix it" she looked at me like she couldn't believe I was her daughter.

"I-"

Her face was turning pale, it was like it was cracking, almost turning gray. Like she was burning. I took a step forward and closed the distance between us putting my arms around her. The feeling that I thought was being repaired was being ripped from me again. I thought I'd gotten her back but she was turning into ash. I tired to tighten my arms around her hoping it would help her stay and not slip away.

But she was slipping through my fingers again.

"No. No" I cried out. My mother put her arms around me again.
