James straightened his suit and his white masquerade mask. He paced around the courtyard of the grand mansion where the ball was held. There were hundreds of trainers with masks. He wasn't sure how he would spot her on all of them. That was until he did. Her dress was like a Dragonair, her hair curled in an updo to hold her blue mask up. He was at a loss for words. Even behind a mask, she was beautiful. He took a step towards her, but Grant's arm wrapped around hers. They laughed and made their way inside. James followed at a distance. Jesse was already making her way around the single guys in hopes of finding her spark of romance for the evening.

James watched as Grant led her to the dance floor. They laughed and seemed to enjoy each other's company. However, when the song finished, they both bowed, and he went off to dance with other friends. James pondered if they came together or just as friends after all. He watched Belle grab a drink and make her way up the grand staircase. He followed, seeing her sit on a chair and look outside. She sipped the drink and sighed. James took a deep breath and approached her.

"May I have this dance?" Belle turned her eyes met him, and he could tell she instantly recognized him. She set her drank down on the windowsill and stood up. "You definitely shouldn't be sitting alone. I mean, you're the most beautiful one in attendance."

Belle blushed. "I thought you didn't want anything to do with me. I mean, you went back to them."

"I know, and I am back with Team Rocket, but Belle." His hand went to her face. "You're the only thing I've been able to think about. When I saw you with Grant, I thought."

"He wanted that, but I couldn't. I was still holding on to you." James smiled. "But what are we going to do? Have a nice night and leave again? Do you want to be with me or not, James? I get it if you can't travel with me, but what do I mean to you?"

"Everything," he whispered. "Of course, I want to be with you. I keep thinking how you deserve so much better."

"It's not fair that you do that, you know? I make my own choices, and I've repeatedly chosen you. I nearly died because of how much I've chosen you, James." Belle took a deep breath. "I'll dance with you if you tell me the truth."

"What truth is that?"

"Have you been able to go a single day without thinking of me? Because I haven't had a single moment where you haven't crossed my mind. I hope you'll come out of nowhere and sweep me off my feet. Then here you are, and all I can feel is afraid of what will happen at the end of this night."

"I can't take a breath without thinking about you, Belle." James held out his hand. "Dance with me, and let's see where this night places us." Belle smiled and nodded. Taking his hand, he helped her down the stairs. They led into a dance. The crowd seemed to silence around them. All she could focus on was him, and all he could do was watch her. Her heart raced as he spun her. He dipped her and brought her back up. Her body pressed against him, he brought his lips down and met hers. Everything lit up, and she felt herself losing her composure. "I want to be with you," he whispered as he released.

"That's exactly what I dreamed of hearing," Belle said.

"The thing is," she frowned, waiting for another ruined moment. "I don't think we can travel together. They are still looking for you, Belle, and I can't be the one who leads you straight to them." Belle nodded. "So, what do you think? Do you want to be together under those conditions?"

"I think I'd like to try."

James spun her again and smiled as he pulled her back towards him. James brought her back towards his lips. Her world lit up as he kissed her. When he pulled away, he studied her eyes. "I'm the luckiest guy in the world." She bowed her head shy before looking back up at him.
