Belle's wounds were healing well, and her body started to regain its strength. She took this opportunity to exercise. She kept a steady jog through the route, stopping only when hearing a shifting in a nearby bush. Slowing, she glanced until seeing the movement. She lifted her leg and kicked a Pokeball up.
"Kingdra, go! We haven't trained for a while, so let's battle this wild Pokemon!" Belle smirked, pointing at the bush. "Water pulse!" Kingdra shot its water pulse at the bush, and a Gible popped out. "It's a Gible!" Belle exclaimed. "We have needed the last dragon member on our team, haven't we?" Kingdra squealed in delight. Gible stood up and lunged toward Kingdra. "Dodge it and use bubble beam!" Kingdra was successful, and Gibel fell over from the impact of the bubble beam. "Go, Pokeball!" Belle tossed her Pokeball at Gible.
One shake.
Two shakes.
Three shakes... and caught!
"We did it!" Bell enthused, rushing to pick it up. "Great work, Kingdra! Come on out, Gible!"
"Gible!"
"Hi, Gible, I'm Belle. This is Kingdra. Would you like to meet the rest of our team while I tend to your injuries?" Gible nodded. Belle opened all her pokeballs and pulled her bag over to start tending to Gible's health while everyone introduced each other. "How's that Gible?"
"Gible!" He jumped out of Belle's arms and spun around. She chuckled.
"We are on a journey. I want to become a Dragon Pokemon Master. So far, we've earned two badges, and we plan to earn our third in that town that you can see over there." She pointed. All of her team cheered. Belle rubbed the top of Gible's head and smiled. "Alright, you get a good rest. Altaria and Charizard, stay out so you can start warming up those wings for our upcoming battle!"
"'Taria!"
"Zard!"
"Okay, so let's see who can reach the city first, okay? Remember you need to alternate sides, no pure straight flying, understand?" Altaria and Charizard nodded. "Alright," Belle adjusted her bag. "And go!" She rushed to keep up with them as they flew above her. "Switch sides!" She panted, mimicking their side swapping as she ran. Altaria pushed through to be the first victor, followed by Charizard and Belle in the back. Through heavy pants, Belle praised them. "Altaria, you will lead the gym battle. Great work, you two. I'll find the Poke Center and get you checked in. Return," she held out their balls and recalled them.
Taking a large breath, she accessed where she was and looked around for the familiar pokemon center logo.
"Hey, did I see that your Charizard is wearing a mega stone?" Belle turned to see a boy with black hair and a blue scarf tied around his neck and extended out the sides. On his wrist was a mega stone.
"You saw correctly!" Belle beamed, "is that for yours?" she gestured.
"It is. I'm Alain. I'd be interested in battling my mega Charizard versus yours. What do you think?"
"After I take mine to the Pokemon Center for a good rest, of course! I'm Belle. Belle Starr."
"Starr? After Professor Starr?"
"The very same," she blushed, rubbing the back of her head.
"Your father's research on using Pokemon abilities as common ailments has been a massive game-changer in the medical field. Are you planning to follow suit as a professor?" Alain started to walk beside her as they made their way toward the Pokemon Center.
"No. I'm going to be a Dragon-Pokemon Master, and I'm here collecting badges to compete in the Kalos league."
"Really? But you know Charizard is technically not a-." Belle shot him a look that made him stop immediately. He chuckled, "I take it you have some opinions regarding that."
"Technically, only Mega Charizard X is classified as a dragon, but what other term would you use to describe Charizard? My Charizard trains alongside my dragon team, with dragon moves, and therefore I find such a statement foolish."
"So, is your Charizard evolve into Mega Charizard X?"
"No, Y. What about yours?"
"X," Alain stated.
"Really?" Belle's eyes widened. "Can I get a good look at your Charizard after our battle? Please?"
"Sure," he laughed. "I'm curious to see what kind of team backs up a Mega Charizard. An all-dragon trainer. Is that kind of boring to work with the same moves constantly?"
"No, it's thrilling. It's not just the moves that matter. It's the typeset and their specific advantages that I get to use. Besides, I train my Pokemon in a very particular way. I pride myself in how hard we train together." They walked into the Pokemon Center and handed their Pokemon to Nurse Joy. "Nurse Joy. I just caught that Gible could you please do a thorough check up on them?"
"Of course, dear."
"A Gible, huh?" Alain smiled. "Did you encounter it on your way here?"
"Yeah, not long before meeting you. I've meant to fill the final slot on my dragon team for a while."
"So, that's only your 6th Pokemon ever caught?"
"No," Belle smiled. "Most I catch for our Research Center, but I train them too at home. See, I've been training at home for the last four years."
"This is your first league then?"
"Second." Belle joined him on a bench in the Pokemon Center garden. "I came in fourth in my first league, which seemed unacceptable. So, I took several years off to become strong and train."
"Fourth in your very first league is crazy impressive. What kind of Pokemon did you use in your first team?"
"Dragon. I used Charizard and my Dragonair."
"That's it?" Belle nodded. "You came in fourth with two Pokemon and found that unacceptable?"
"I get often told I need to calm down on my perfectionism, but I let my team down. If I had used better combinations of moves and countered typeset better, we could've won, but without that experience, I wouldn't be standing where I am now."
They both turned as the notification sounded inside that their Pokemon's checkups were done. They crossed inside and walked to the table, and collected their Pokeballs.
"I did check over your Gible, and there is something. Gible's canine tooth is loose and will likely need a replacement. Pokemon dentists aren't too common, but there is one. Luckily it's only one city over in Shalour City."
"Okay, thank you." Belle sighed, "okay, so I'll head to Shalour and then return here. I guess I should battle in Shalour while I'm at it." Belle pulled out her notebook and started reworking her plan.
"I'll come with you," Alain said. "Let's get Gible the care he needs and then we can have our battle."
"You sure?" Alain nodded. "Okay, thank you. Let's go! Thank you Nurse Joy!"
"Of course, here is the address to the dentist. The dentist's name is Bid. I'll give him a call to know to expect you."
"Thank you. Alright, Alain, let's go!"
