P A R I S A

It's been 2 years since Dean passed.

I've been going to therapy and have been living with my Dad for these two years because they came back to town.

After Dean's death, I tried to reach out to Hazel's mom, but she wasn't having it. I leave out every day hoping I run into Hazel, so I can see how she's doing.

No one cared that Dean was dead at work everyone seems fine.

Dean's dad is taking over the company I work at today, but I don't know if I can face him without seeing Dean in him. I still got up today and got ready for work.

Before leaving my dad stops me, "Paris."

Looking at him I ask, "what." He pulls me into a tight hug, but I don't hug him back.

I don't love my dad. Every night I have to stop myself from killing him and his wife. I used to love them, but they fucked me up.

He pulls away from the hug and I walk out of the door.

Once I'm inside I clock in and go straight to my office.

I look in my bag for the medicine I'm supposed to take for my depression, but I throw my bag down and put my head in my hands.

I stay like this for a while, but someone knocks on my already open door. Lifting my head I see it's Dean's dad, "oh," I say sadly. He walks in and sits on one chair in front of my desk.

"As much as I don't like your father. And yes I know who your father is. I respect you for protecting my granddaughter and trying to protect my son," his voice cracks and he quickly clears it.

I loved his son and his granddaughter more than anything and when they left my life my life practically ended.

I'm 25 years old and I have nothing going for myself because of that trauma.

Dean's dad gets up and closes the door to my office, "I have an offer for you," he walks back over and sits in front of me again. "Yes?"

He keeps his voice at a whisper saying, "we can try this killing your dad thing again. I know you signed the contract Dean gave you, so you can't say no."

"I wasn't going to say no," I respond dead set.

"Alrighty then. Swing by Dean's main office after your shift so we discuss things," nodding my head he gets up to walk out but I stop him standing up, "Hey! I have another question."

He turns around motioning his hands for me to go on.

"Do you know how Hazel's doing," I ask sadly?

His eyes fell when I asked the question. He let out a deep sigh before looking up and answering, "I wish I knew sweetheart. Her mom took her and I believe put her up for adoption. I tried my best to get her and see where she is, but I haven't gotten far. The only thing I know is she goes to a school nearby."

I sudden spark comes to my heart. Probably a message from Dean.

I know my baby is in hell, so I hope he's looking up at me and protecting me.

"Can I leave," I ask excitedly? "Why not," he responds.

Quickly grabbing my stuff I rush out of the office.

My best friend lives down here now because her husband died around the same time Dean did. She's been doing better, but she has a 6-year-old son that goes to a school in the area.

I came to her house and she welcomed me. My best friend, Lilly, is like my sister.

She's so freaking pretty too. Lilly is an African American midsize woman, her beautiful locks flow down her back, and she has the sweetest and warmest smile; even with all she's been through she keeps a smile on her face. She's 5'8 (the same height as me). Her son, Rex, is biracial; half black and half Indian, Rex is the most beautiful little boy.

Sitting down on the couch Lilly sits next to me, "I'm so happy you came by.

I haven't seen you in almost a year and we have so much to catch up on," smiling at her my heart warms thinking about our childhood.

My eyes fall on all the beautifully colored and cultured things in the living room, but the picture I see on the table catches my eye. Picking it up I look at the three children in the picture.

Rex.

Another little boy.

Hazel.

"Yeah um, what's this little girl's name," I ask in a rushing manner.

"Her name is Hazel, one of Rex's best friends. They took this last year at his birthday party." Tears fall down my cheek while I continue to look at the picture. Lilly places her hand on my back and gently rubs it, "what's wrong?"

Lifting my head I look at her, "do you still see her? Please tell me you still have contact with her," my voice is shaking and out of control.

Lilly frantically nods her head, "yes I do. She's coming here after school," she wipes my tears and my heart starts to calm down.

"I'll go get you tea," Lilly tells me getting up from the couch.

She brings me the tea and I drink from it watching the clock.

While speaking with each other she manages to get a smile on my face.

We begin talking and running memories and before I know it it's a knock on the door, "ooo! That's them," Lilly walks over to the door. Her apartment is small and homey, and her door and dining room weren't a far distance.

When she opens the door I see her welcoming 3 kids. When they all walk inside Hazel stops in her tracks when she sees me, "mom?"

My heart is pounding. She looks just like her dad.
