Summer
I wake up beacuse of something cold on my bare back. I don't have on a shirt anymore like I did when I fell asleep. Where did it go? There's an open window letting in wind that is flailing the curtain. It sends chills down my spine and causes me to shake. I don't notice I'm screaming until my throat feels sore.
I hear something click and the lamp turns on.
Ray's leaning over the bed, looking at me. "You okay? It's 2:00 a.m."
I nod slowly. "I'm sorry. I just-" I push all of my hair out of my face. "Ugh! I can't do this."
Ray has sadness in her eyes as she looks at me. That just makes me cry worse. She looks at me as if she's looking through me.
"Calm down," she says.
I notice I'm breathing heavily. I slow my breathing down.
"You wanna see something?" she asks.
I nod.
She opens a drawer and pulls out what looks like a notebook. She flips through pages until she gets to a certain one. She turns it to a portrait.
"That me," I say.
Ray nods.
"And what's that?" I ask, pointing to the red streak going through my chest.
Ray smiles down at me as I rest my head on her chest. "Shit. I don't even know. That's what you're hiding from me. That's the pain that you're so scared to share with me."
I look down, smirking.
Ray picks my chin up. "That's okay, though. Just tell me a little bit at a time."
I nod.
"Look..." Ready blows out. "I'm usually not like this. I'm not this clingy. I'm not this lovey dovey, but you do something to me. I never draw girls I talk to, but with you I just felt like I had to. So... If you could do me a solid and not mention this to any of my boys?"
I nod and chuckle.
She chuckles too. "Now..." Ray crawls back over to the chair off of the bed. "Go to sleep again."
I sigh. "I'll try."
I lay my head against the pillow, but it didn't feel the same. I don't feel safe. I don't feel secure. I know what I need. I just don't want to ask. That's taking it to far... Isn't it?
"Ray?" I call.
"Yes?" Ray yawns out.
"Can you," I start. "Can you come lay with me?"
Ray looks at me confused yet smirking. "You sure?" she asks.
I nod. "Please?"
Ray crawls into the bed and shimmies under the blankets. She places me ever so carefully into her arms and presses my head into her chest. Ray kisses my forehead.
"Ray," I say softly.
"Yes, baby?" she says. She called me baby? She called me baby!
"Who's the little girl on your ceiling?" I ask.
Ray sighs and rubs my hair. "All in due time. All in due time."
"But-" I start.
"Go to sleep."
"Ray?" I call again.
She scoffs. "Yes?"
I was hoping she called me baby again. "Hold ne tight."
Ray clenches her muscular arms around my waist.
I fall asleep in the arms of a stranger I no longer considered a stranger. Ray was apart of me. Ray was someone that would keep it real. Ray was mine.

I wake up, but I don't move. I examine my once unfamiliar surroundings. In the corner there's an old grandfather clock. It's 11:23. I slept nine hours! That's the longest I've slept since I went to Louisiana. It's something about her.
I have pee. I sit up, just to be pulled back tight into someone. I look back and of course it's Ray.
I chuckle as I look back at her.
Ray's smirking at me. "Where you think you going, beautiful?"
I laugh. "Why you holding me so tight, nigga?"
Ray brings her face to mine, her cheek resting on mine and her chin on my shoulder. "You told me to hold you tight, didn't you?"
I laugh. "I did. Thanks. Now can I get up?"
"I don't see how a nigga could have ever let you go," Ray says ss she kisses my neck.
I chuckle. "You'd be surprised. They keep secrets. I like people that lay they baggage on the table."
"I'd lay all my shit on the table with you Babygirl!" Ray says smiling, still kissing my neck. "I'd hold you down."
I pull my self up and she lets me go.
"YEET!" Ray yells as she pulls me on top of her, straddling her waist. She sighs. "Owe I'd love to wake up to you on top of me like this," Ray says sexually.
There's a knock on the door.
Ray groans. "Just when I was finna eat breakfast," she says licking her lips at me.
I laugh. "Yea, right."
She winks at me as she stands up with me in her arms. She lays me on the bed while she reaches up my shirt no farther than my stomach, rubbing under my bellybutton. HOW DID SHE KNOW MY SPOT?! I must have made a face because she smirks.
Knock. Knock.
I grunt because I don't want her to leave.
She smirks and bites her lip. "Give me two seconds, Babygirl."
I lay back on the bed as Ray goes to check the door.
It's a woman. I can hear her squeaky voice in the distance.
I can only comprehend Ray though.
"Christina?... What are you doing here?... What the fuck?!... You can't do that Christina!... I need her! She's mine." Ray sounds like she's crying. "Fuck outta here man!" The door is slammed.
By now I'm at the doorway behind Ray. I slowly walk to her. "Ray?" I call.
She says nothing.
"Ray? Ray, are you okay?" I ask.
Ray whips around. "None of your business! Do I look fine?" she says in a bitter tone. She sits in a recliner.
I give a nervous chuckle. "Look, I didn't do anything to her. It's not my fault-"
"Get out."
I laugh. "What?" I must've heard this wrong.
"You heard me. Get. Out."
I wipe a tear. "Okay. Fine. But make sure you leave me the fuck alone, too, asshole." I rush to the door, slipping on my jeans in the process.
"Summer!" she calls ad if she's just realizing her actions. Ray reaches for my hand.
"You know what?" I ask turning around. "Im stupid as fuck! For thinking I could have feelings for someone this quick. Last night, I could've stayed home. I could have gotten in my own bed. I could have. I could have. But I stayed here. With your bitch ass."
I leave the condo, slamming the door. Those words rung in my ear. "Get out. Get out. Get. Out.
