Miranda closes the door behind me.
The park is right across the street snd down a little.
On the way there I try to compose the words I'm going to say. "Ray... You're a liar and I just don't wanna be in shut with you. Hell, I'm not even gay." I nod to myself. Sounds pretty good.
When I get to the park, I notice that it is bare. In the far corner of the parking lot sits the exact car that Ray described. I approach it stealthily and with purpose. I have to end this. I have to.
The dots unlock and I open the door.
The lights are off as I close the door.
"Ray. Listen, I got-"
"Summer," Ray says in a whisper. "Summer. I'm sorry. It's not my fault. I just"
I sigh. "I want to look at you while we talk."
"Summer, I don't think-"
I stop Ray. "I want to see you."
Ray sighs and his the light. Rays face is bruised up and her wife beater is bloody. Her lip is swollen and she has a black eye.
I'm filled with sadness. The way zi cared for Ray was just now understandable. I care so much, and I haven't noticed it until now. "Oh my God," I say faintly above a whisper.
Ray blows out for a long time, leaning her seat back. "Can we please turn out the lights? It's giving me a headache." Ray throws the hood over her eyes, cruising her arms.
I turn off the lights. "Who did this to you, baby?" I crawl over to Ray, stradling her waist. "Who hurt you?"
Ray looks away. "Summer. Why do you deal with me? Just... Just say you don't want me. Say you don't feel the way I do. If you do that, you're safe."
A tear falls from my eye. "But I do though Ray! I care about you."
Ray sighs. "Well... Here goes nothing. Summer. I'm a drug dealer."
I stop. For some moments, I can't breathe. "W-w-what?" My ears don't hear this. I can't be hearing this. The person I have such deep feelings for deals drugs. "You said you were a normal student. You work at the gym. You said that. You said-"
Ray grabs my wrists. "I know what I said, Sunshine... I lied. And I'm sorry. If it helps, I did it for us. So we could have a future. Forgive me. Please?"
I shake my head. Tears are falling heavy. "You lied! I told you what I didn't want! A liar! You said you told me everything!"
Ray sits up. "Summer, I'm sorry. Summer, please. Please don't go. I just want to lay with you tonight... Okay?"
I nod. "Ray. I can't deal. All this is coming all of a sudden. I don't know. I just don't know!"
Ray pulled me into her chest. "You don't have to know, baby."
I don't say words. I was lied to. I was betrayed. I was... Ugh!
Ray rubs my hair to comfort me.
"No more secrets," I warn.
Ray kisses my forehead. "No more secrets. Summer... I've only known you for a week, but damn. I just- You're so... perfect."
We drift off to sleep in that car.
•••••
Ray wakes me up, holding her hand over my mouth. "Someone's outside," she whispers.
I nod, panicking.
Knock. Knock knock. Knock. Knock.
Ray lets out the breath she was holding in. "It's the squad."
I nod.
"Open the door, baby." Ray pushes me back over to the passenger's seat.
I open the door and it's Jae and Dee and Mo.
"Hey, lovebirds," Jae says going in the back seat, followed by Mo and Dee.
I laugh. "Waddup?"
Dee pushes Rays's seat up so she can sit down. "What's the plan boss?" Dee asks.
Ray blows out heavily. "Man... I don't even know. I would say my place, but that's way too damned small for all four of us to live comfortably and invite the squad over for meetings till we get another trap."
Jae hits Ray. "Summer is sitting right here."
Ray laughs and looks at me. "She knows."
Jae draws back. "Summer you must be special as fuck 'cause Ray never discussed the trap in front of fems."
Dee laughs. "Rays's a big softie. Ray's a big softie!" she taunts.
Ray smirks a little. "Ray writes your checks. Ray writes your checks."
We all laugh.
"And let's get this clear!" Ray says sitting up quick and grabs her head.
I reach over to check on her.
"Im not sof-" Ray looks at me. "Bae, stop. You baking me look soft."
I laugh. Everybody joins in. "Im sorry."
"I'm not soft." Ray kisses my head. "And if I am, it's only for Summer."
I blush.
Mo sticks her finger in the back of her throat and gags. "Look, boss. That's cute and all, but where we gone stay at? Something big enough to hold all of us."
Ray sighs. "I'm gonna make a plan. Just give me time."
Jae looks uat Ray. "Look bro. To you that's a trap. To us, that's our house. We live there, bruh."
I clear my throat. "Y'all could stay with me."
Ray looks at me quick as fuck. "Oh, hell naww!"
Mo hits Ray. "Why not?"
Ray looks over at me. "Number one, y'all my brothers, but yall been done raped Babygirl! And we all know it. Horny little fuckers. Number two, Summer don't need all y'all staying there, getting on her nerves for months. Plus, she dont even know how long the parentals outta town."
Summer taps me. "Number one, I'm a big girl. I cam take care of myself. Number two, I wouldn't mind. I kinda like taking care of people. Number three, they're out for freaking months. They're on a retreat in Africa for they're honeymoon and she wants to have her baby down there.... Weirdo."
Ray smiles and all of a sudden kisses me. "Oooo wee! You're perfect as fuck!"
I blush. "I know."
Ray grabs my hand. "Everything's perfect."
Ray's phone rings.
"Hello?... Baby?..." Ray looks back at the squad. "Niggas, shut the fuck up!... Yes, honey?... What?!... Daddy's on her way. Okay, love?... Pack your shit... You coming with daddy." Ray hangs up and grabs her head in frustration. "FUCK!" she screams as she bangs her hands on the steering wheel.
Okay. So yes. I'm upset. She obviously just talked to some bitch in front of my face. I know I'm not hers officially, but that's some disrespectful ass shit! Taking about she finds come pick her up. The fuck.
I hit her hard as fuck. "Really nigga? Really? Letting some bitch call you daddy I'm getting of me? Calling her baby and honey and shit. You motherfucker, you."
Ray's peaceful with me trying to grab my hands. "Summer stop."
"No.. I FUCKING HATE YOU!"
Ray grabs my hands. "That's not another bitch!"
"Lying ass!" I say. "Who the fuck is it then?"
"MY DAUGHTER!"
My mouth drops. This is too much.
She's a drug dealer.
A flirt.
A liar.
An obvious cheat.
And she has a kid.
She has... BAGGAGE.
