CHAPTER 7

It must have been at least ten minutes since they started walking. And Liam is trying to remain silent until Zayn starts talking, but the latter just keeps walking silently with his hands buried in his pockets, lost in thoughts. And Liam is dying for the explanation here.

He stops walking, and stares silently, until Zayn notices his absence and glances back.

"You haven't said a word since we started walking" Liam states and Zayn grimaces.

"I can't take it anymore" Liam sighs "I'm worried over your crazyass decision. Why would you do this to yourself?"

Zayn turns to look at him, musing silently as he looks at Liam thoughtfully.

"I'm not sure how to tell you" Zayn confesses "Its complicated. At least to me, as...as its a first for me"

Liam frowns. "Just tell me"

"Blatantly?"

"Yes" Liam nods, now suspicious. He's not stupid, there is something his heart is expecting Zayn to say, anticipating for it. But even if Zayn confirms his suspicions, Liam is not sure if he can take it or accept it.

Zayn looks away, taking a deep breath in. "You can stay either way, it won't be a problem"

Liam stares. "Is this what you wanted to say?"

"No" Zayn winces.

"Zayn, just say it" Liam says "Like I did. You don't have to hesitate"

Zayn ponders for a minute, staring at Liam like he expects the latter to just get it without actually saying it aloud. But Liam only stares back like a clueless puppy. And Zayn notices the hope shining in his eyes, maybe that's what makes him say it. Gives him enough confidence to blurt it out.

"I want you to stay" Zayn says "Not because you don't have a place or anything. I just, I genuinely don't want you to leave"

"You made that pretty clear" Liam nods, still looking confused "But that was before you knew what I....what I was"

Can't he see that Zayn still wants him to say despite what he was in the past? That doesn't matter anymore. Can't he see Zayn likes him? He must, from the way Zayn is looking desperate. But Liam is still clueless.

It hits Zayn that Liam might not know what it's like for an alpha to genuinely like him. Maybe Zayn's jumping into conclusions too soon, but what if Liam had never felt what it's like to be liked by someone?

That hurts Zayn. He doesn't want it to be true. But there are chances it might be.

"What about your pack then?" Liam continues upon Zayn's silence "Do you think they'd want me here after they know Deaton is involved?"

"Liam, I didn't know that bastard existed until you told me so" Zayn points out "And they don't have to know"

"You are not keeping it from them" Liam says firmly. "You are going to tell them, Zayn."

"They don't have to know every unnecessary details" Zayn says "And if you do tell them, they'll only use it against you, let me tell you. Alphas like Rick? He'll know how to use it against you and I don't want that"

"No matter what kind of an asshole he is, he's part of your pack. Your pack should come first to you when you are their chief" Liam argues "Zayn what the hell are you thinking? I'm confused. Alright, let's keep it from them. What if they find out? What then?"
