CHAPTER 14

Neither of the boys sleep well that night. Zayn stays awake, staring at the ceiling as he replays the whole argument in his head. Everything went downhill in matter of minutes, and he still can't believe this is happening. He doesn't regret his choice, but it still makes him feel guilty, if he's honest.

He's supposed to be the pack leader, but he gave up his pack for Liam. Not entirely, but his decision to accompany Liam is close to abandoning his pack.

It also makes him question just how much Zayn cares for Liam. Or how enamored he is with the Omega.

He tries to push away those thoughts, because it's scary. The depth of his feelings for Liam goes too deep than he lets on and he has no idea how he ended up this way. Nor does he want to ponder over it, and acknowledge the depth.

All he wants is to help Liam and protect his boys at all costs. He's not going to let anything happen to any of them. He promises that to himself.

Liam lies awake in the own room, curled into a ball and trying to keep his brain from conjuring up scary images. Like one of the boys getting hurt, or worse, killed. He can't even let himself imagine it, and he's terrified. He wants to beg them to just let him go, but they won't listen. They are all stubborn and they are not realizing the consequences of their choices.

Liam clenches his eyes tightly and forces those imagines away, but they plague him for the rest of the night.

They meet at Zayn's house the next morning at five. It's unspoken agreement, and only Louis seems to be very tired and sleepy out of all of them, yawning like a kitten every two minutes. Even Zayn feels wide awake, despite having practically no sleep.

Liam stands still like a statue by Louis, his eyes boring into something as he loses himself into his thoughts, Harry is fiddling with the strap of his bag, and Niall is still arranging things in his bag.

"So, I informed mum I'd be joining you guys" Harry tells Zayn "Did you inform Trisha about this?"

"I will" Zayn nods, but he's panicking. He has no idea what to tell them, and he's not sure if they'll support his decisions.

"Good" Harry nods.

"Curly-"

"Don't even start. I'm still mad at you"

Louis sighs and drags his feet as he makes his way outside, he seems to be having the biggest travel bag out of all of them. Niall follows them all out, the Irish man's been silent ever since he met up with them. Zayn doesn't want ask him about how things are with Josh and worsen his mood even further.

They take Louis' car, something he's very proud of apparently. Niall silently takes the driver seat as Louis has got his techs to work on. Zayn takes the seat behind, followed by Harry then Liam. It's only when Niall's not starting the car that Zayn realizes there's presence outside the car. He looks over, to find Alec and Josh.

Oh no. He cannot have this talk right now.

And he can't look at Alec directly, he can just feel the pleading eyes directed at him. Alec walks over and stands by Zayn's window, staring at Zayn while the latter avoids his eyes.

"Please don't go" Alec whispers in a plea and Zayn grits his teeth. "Please don't go, Zayn. I beg you"

It's heartbreaking and cruel. Why should Zayn choose in between his love and his best mate? It shouldn't be this hard, life shouldn't test him like this.
