In the weeks after joining the Southern Water Tribe, Jolee intergrates himself within the Tribe. To the children of the Water Tribe, Jolee was a funny and cranky old man who would tell fantastical stories to them. To the adults, Jolee was a wise and cranky old man who offered unconventional words of wisdom. But among the entire Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka were the ones closest to the old Jedi. For Sokka, he was a powerful warrior who could teach him how to fight. For Katara, he was a wise teacher who could teach her his ways. During his stay, Jolee was soon informed about the troubles of this world which included the Fire Nation waging war across the Four Nations. He also learned the Katara and Sokka's mother were killed during a raid by the Fire Nation. He also learned that their father led the warriors of the Southern Water Tribe to fight the Fire Nation. The troubles in this world reminded Jolee too much of the troubles in the Galaxy. One day as he meditates in his igloo, a child ran into his home.

Child: Jolee! Jolee! Come quick!

Jolee: What is it, young one?

Child: Sokka and Katara are back!

Jolee: Are they now? Well if they want to see me, they know where I live.

Child: They brought someone!

Upon hearing this, Jolee became curious. He could feel the Force compelling him to meet with this stranger. When he exited his hut, Jolee saw that Katara and Sokka had brought in a bald young boy wearing monk clothing. On his head was a blue arrow. Jolee could feel a strong power from within this boy.

Katara: Aang, this is the entire village. Entire village, Aang.

Aang bows respectfully toward the villagers, but they cower away in fear, bringing a surprised look to Katara and Aang's faces. Sokka just watches from a distance.

Aang: Uh, why are they all looking at me like that? Did Appa sneeze on me?

Kanna: Well, no one has seen an airbender in a hundred years. We thought they were extinct, until my granddaughter and grandson found you.

Aang: Extinct?

Katara: Aang, this is my grandmother.

Kanna: Call me Gran-Gran.

As Kanna introduced herself to Aang, Jolee approached the young Airbender, wearing a curious look on his face. Jolee takes a moment to analyze Aang.

Katara: Aang, this this Jolee Bindo. He's been living with our tribe for some time.

Aang: Are you an Airbender? Your clothes are a lot like mine.

Jolee: I'm sure some people would think I'm an Airbender. But the truth is that I'm just an old coot who is strong in the Force.

Sokka walks toward Aang and abruptly snatches his staff out of his hands and starts to examine it.

Sokka: What is this, a weapon? You can't stab anything with this!

Aang: It's not for stabbing! It's for Airbending.

Aang then opens his staff into a glider, making Sokka gasp in fright and cover his head with his hands. Sokka then turns to Jolee.

Jolee! Show him your light sword!

Jolee: It's called a Lightsaber, Sokka.

Jolee then ignites his green Lightsaber. Aang was in awe at the Jedi's weapon.

Aang: I've never seen a weapon or Bending like that before!

Jolee: I'm not a Bender....at least not what you would consider a Bender.

Child: Magic trick! Do it again!

Aang: Not magic. Airbending. It lets me control the air currents around my glider and fly.

Sokka: Ya know, last time I checked, humans can't fly!

Aang: Check again!

Aang grabs hold of his glider and pushes himself off the ground, leaving Katara and Sokka to cover their faces against the sudden wind. The village stares in awe as Aang makes some loops and turns in the sky. Jolee looks upon the scene with an amused look on his face. Aang's shadow passes over Katara, who is smiling broadly at him. Aang, intending to further impress the villagers, flies sideways and closes his eyes while grinning broadly. He promptly flies head-on into the village's watchtower, causing his head to be stuck in its side. Katara covers her mouth as she watches Aang struggle to extricate his head from the icy watchtower. Succeeding, he tumbles downward onto a pile of snow at the base of the tower that crumbled from the building. Katara immediately rushes to his side while Sokka stares in shock at the damage inflicted on his watchtower.

Sokka: My watchtower!

Katara: That was amazing!

Sokka: Great. You're an Airbender, Katara's a Waterbender. Together you can just waste time all day long.

Aang: You're a Waterbender?

Katara: Well, sort of. Not yet.

Kanna: All right, no more playing. Come on, Katara, you have chores.

Kanna leads Katara away from Aang. The surrounding villagers part to let the duo pass. Jolee follows the two as he chuckles.

Katara: I told you, he's the real thing Gran-Gran! I finally found a Bender to teach me!

Kanna: Katara, try not to put all your hopes in this boy.

Katara: But he's special! I can tell! I sense he's filled with much wisdom.

Katara opens her eyes again and glances back toward Aang, who is surrounded by a bunch of kids. He smiles while his tongue is stuck to his staff. Much to Aang's discomfort, one of the smaller village boys starts to yank his staff, pulling Aang along with every movement. The village kids laugh and applaud Aang as his tongue remains stuck to his staff.

Jolee: The boy is special. There's no denying that. Hhm. Only time will tell.

With that, Aang had been accepted into the Water Tribe. But what none of them realized was that Aang's arrival would have unintended consequences.
