After Haru's imprisonment, Katara began laying her plan to get arrested for Earthbending in motion. At a rocky road, Sokka and Katara working together to push a boulder overtop an air vent on a rocky road.
Sokka: I thought you were crazy at first, Katara, but this might work. There are ventilation shafts throughout these mines. All Aang has to do is send an air current from that vent to this one right here. The boulder levitates and ta-da! Fake Earthbending.
Katara: Aang? Did you get all that?
They turn to Aang who was snapping small puffs of air at a sooty copper fritillary butterfly.
Aang: Sure sure. I got it.
Katara: Do you remember your cue?
Aang: Yeah, yeah. Just relax. You're taking all the fun out of this.
Sokka: By this, do you mean intentionally being captured by a group of ruthless Firebenders?
Aang: Exactly! That's fun stuff!
Jolee: A strange idea of fun....
It wasn't long before a group of Firebenders were spotted. Immediately, everyone got into position. Aang stops playing with the butterfly and Momo tries catching it as it flies away. As the group of spear-wielding guards approach, Katara and Sokka make a show of walking into one another by their stomachs before emphatically shouting.
Sokka: Get out of my way, pipsqueak!
Katara: How dare you call me pipsqueak, you giant-eared cretin!
Sokka: What did you call me?
Katara: A giant-eared cretin! Look at those things! Do herds of animals use them for shade?!
The soldiers become confused by what was happening before them.
Sokka: That's it! You're going down!
Katara: I'll show you who's boss! Earthbending Style!
Katara dramatically leaps toward the boulder, clenching her fist upward to which there is no reaction. Katara becomes annoyed.
Katara: I said Earthbending Style!
At Katara's shout, Aang gasps quietly as he realizes his mistake by missing his cue. The young Airbender ceases playing with the butterfly, leaps up, and blasts a strong jet of air into the ventilation duct, suddenly sending the boulder levitating into the air. This reveals Momo behind the boulder, who has his arms raised, licking himself.
Guard: That lemur! He's Earthbending!
Katara and Momo each remain in their positions. Katara eyes the man in surprise. Sokka, angrily, waves his arms toward her.
Sokka: No, you idiot! The girl!
Guard: Oh. Of....course.
Sokka steps beside Katara, laying his hands on her shoulders as the boulder falls to the ground. Katara stands patiently. It was at this moment that Jolee steps in.
Jolee: Not bad, young lady. But your....Style lacks substance. Allow me to demonstrate.
Jolee takes a deep breath and mimics the movements used for Earthbending. He then uses the Force to lift several boulders and throw them past the guards.
Guard: Another Earthbender!
Jolee: Oh. I was hoping you'd be gone by now. Oh well.
Sokka: I'll hold them!
As Sokka restrains Katara and Jolee, Sokka whispers to them.
Sokka: You've got twelve hours to find Haru. We'll be right behind you.
The guards escort Jolee and Katara away, leaving Aang, Sokka, and Momo to watch as she takes a final glance back. As the two were placed in the back of a Fire Nation transport with other Earthbender prisoners. She wears a brown, tattered prison garb over her blue Water Tribe outfit and stares glumly downward. Aang and Sokka discretely follow them wearing conical yellow hats. Katara looks longingly over shoulder as the cart bobs along a pier, heading toward a waiting barge on the ocean.
Jolee: It would appear our...prison is out in the middle of the ocean.
Katara: But why the ocean?
Jolee: We'll soon find out.
Jolee begins meditating on the Force. As he meditates, Katara speaks with Jolee.
Katara: Why did you get yourself arrested?
Jolee: Someone had to keep an eye on you. And with that plan of yours, a calm set of eyes is always helpful.
Katara: A calm set of eyes?
Jolee: This whole thing with Haru has got you worked up. And if you're going to rescue him, you need a calm mind.
Katara: But I got him arrested! None of this would've happened if I didn't push him to....
Jolee: And that is why I am here. You're a good kid, but you need to remain calm. Right now we're being thrown into the lion's den. We are prisoners of a hostile group. And considering who we travel with, it is in our best interest to remain calm.
Katara took a moment to ponder Jolee's words. While she saw wisdom in them, Katara still felt a sense of guilt about Haru's imprisonment. Jolee could see the fire in Katara's eyes as he sighs.
Jolee: We will make this right, Katara.
Soon enough, Jolee and Katara reached the Prison, Jolee and Katara along with six other prisoners were lined up on the deck of the prison. Spear-wielding guards stand at either side. A prison warden approaches.
Warden: Earthbenders. It is my pleasure to welcome you aboard my modest shipyard. I am your warden. I prefer to think of you not as prisoners, but as honored guests. And I hope you come to think of me as your humble and caring host. You will succeed here, if you simply abide....
The warden pauses, suddenly interrupted by a prisoner in line coughing. With no forewarning, the warden leaps into the air and aims a blast of fire at the prisoner's legs in anger. The prisoner cowers away for safety as the warden stands defiantly toward the man.
Warden: What kind of guest dishonors his host by interrupting him?! Take him below! One week in solitary will improve his manners. Simply treat me with the courtesy that I give you....
The warden approaches Katara, kneeling to stare into her obstinate expression. She crosses her eyebrows, scowling coarsely at the man.
Warden: And we'll get along famously.
Jolee puts his hand on Katara's shoulders to calm her down. In that moment, Jolee and Katara were imprisoned. Now an escape plan was already set in motion.
