~
The fresh morning air woke me up as I strolled through the forest. I looked over my shoulder seeing the camp fence peering through the leaves. I continued to walk, not really knowing where to. Even though it's the coldest part of the winter, the sun shone down on my skin and made my goosebumps rise. I heard bird chirps and a blur flew by my face. I looked up and saw a blue bird perched on the branch above me.
Weird, I thought, birds should 't be here at this time of year.
It chirps a beautiful melody before a flock of them flew by. Joining them, it disappeared back between the trees and left me alone and silent again. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and opened them again. I was suddenly in the medical room, lying down on a stretcher.
"Bad dream?" Leyla said softly.
"No..." I said sheepishly still trying to figure this out, "Just a dream..."
"Blue birds?"
I looked at her, puzzled.
"You were whispering it in your sleep. I've been having the same dreams lately. Does this mean we're almost... Home?"
My heart beat skipped a beat when she said this. The word was still so foreign to me. "Soon."
"Promise we will find it together? With daddy?" She grinned.
"Promise," I smiled back.
On the other side of me, I hadn't noticed Bellamy slumped in a chair, asleep. One hand rested on stomach and then other was hand cuffed to the chair.
"What happened?" I whispered to Leyla.
She looked at a man in a stretcher across the room, "Daddy was arguing with him..."
Octavia's words echoed through my head and I sighed in disappointment.
"I told him that you were fine because you always came back to me before."
I reached over and smoothed down her hair and smiled.
"Come on, let's go and see what we can help with."
I started to get up, but she quickly said, "Abby said you have to stay here."
I stopped moving, "Oh. That's okay, I'm feeling better."
"But..." Her eyes lingered on my bandages peaking out from the top of my shirt, my sleeve, and the top of my boots.
"Don't worry, Ley. I know it looks bad, but it doesn't hurt."
She still didn't believe me, but she came and helped me up anyways. I limped a few steps over to Bellamy and gently kissed him on the forehead. I suddenly felt a warm hand firmly around my wrist.
"Where do you think you're going?" Bellamy opened his eyes and sat up, still holding onto me.
"Preparing. We have no ti-"
"Sloan you need rest, lots of it," he released arm and gestured me to sit back down.
"I know I've been through a lot, but I seriously fine."
"No, you're not," he stood up, forgetting that he was handcuffed.
He took the chair with him as he guided me back towards the stretcher. He gently pushed down on my shoulders and I let myself drop onto the stretcher. Leyla stood where she was and watched us.
"I'll get Abby," Leyla started for the entrance.
Bellamy sat the chair down properly and then sat next to the stretcher.
