Emily sighed and squeezed Olivia's hand.

Olivia frowned as she felt her hand being squeezed lightly. She looked at Emily and saw the brunette moving slightly. Then she opened her eyes and looked around the room, her eyes then landing on her girlfriend.

-L-Liv?, said the brunette with a tired tone.

-Yes love, it's me. You're okay. Don't move, I'll call the doctor., said the older girl.

-Stay., whispered Emily, squeezing Olivia's hand a bit harder, not wanting to let go.

-Em, I have to tell the doctor that you're awake. I'll be right back, I promise., replied Olivia, looking her in the eyes, trying to reassure her.

Emily nodded lightly and loosened her grip on her girlfriend's hand. Olivia quickly walked to the hallway and poked her dad's arm.

-Call a doctor. She's awake., said the brunette, leaving without waiting for a response.

The dad did as told, while Olivia went back to Emily, seeing the brunette trying to sit up and groaning.

-Emily, no. Stop that., said Olivia as she rushed over to her and helped her lay down gently again.

-I need to find him. You're not safe., replied Emily, once again being stubborn and overprotective.

-No. I'm safe. You're safe. He's getting arrested. He have proof that he caused all of this. It's over., explained Olivia quickly, taking her hand again while looking at her with a soft and pure smile.

-Oh. Okay. Good., nodded Emily, relaxing into the bed and sighing deeply.

Olivia pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down on it, still holding Emily's hand as a nurse came in and checked Emily's vitals.

-Everything seems stable. I'm gonna send the doctor in. He's performing a surgery right now. He'll be here in a few minutes. He's almost done., said the nurse.

The woman left again, not saying another word. Olivia was relieved to say the least. She really thought she had lost Emily for good.

-You really need to stop putting yourself in these situations, Em. I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you., said Olivia, looking at their hands.

-I'm not going anywhere., replied Emily as she intertwined their fingers.

-I know. But what if it would have gone differently? What if he had shot you and you would have actually died? I hate the thought of that., replied Olivia, looking up and meeting those soft hazel eyes.

-Well, I had to do something, Liv. Sofia was in danger and he wanted me. I had to act and help Sofia. I wasn't gonna let him hurt her. You know me., sighed Emily as she placed her second hand on top of their hands.

-I do know you. And I know that you would rather die then let someone you care about get hurt. But you have to understand that you putting yourself in dangerous situations makes me go insane. I mean, this is all my fault. First my mom who sliced your hand open, then Justin who literally shot you. This is on me. Maybe we shouldn't be-, rambled Olivia as she blamed herself.

-Don't you fucking dare finish that sentence, Olivia. None of this is your fault. What happened with your mom was out of your control. She clearly has some mental issues which control her actions. You didn't ask for it. And about Justin, he's a fucking creep who has been stalking you for way too long. I had to do something. I can't just watch him hurt you and then get away with it. Hell no. But I want you to understand that I love you and that I could never let go of you. So don't you even think about a break or a breakup. Understood?, explained Emily seriously.

Olivia opened her mouth to reply but the door flew open, revealing two worried parents.

-Hi mom. Hi dad., chuckled Emily.

-Don't chuckle, this is not funny, Emmy., said her father.

-You want me to cry?, asked the brunette.

-Don't talk no nonsense Emily. I'm happy that you're okay. I'm truly relieved that you're awake., sighed the mother as she approached her daughter and kissed her forehead.

-I'm happy too, mom., smiled the younger girl.

-Okay. Did the doctor already say something? Where is he? I want to talk to him about your injuries., rambled the mother once again.

-He's coming soon., replied Olivia with a light smile.

And that's when the doctor walked in. It was a quick checkup. He made sure that her wounds were correctly sealed and her vitals were normal, then talked to the parents, letting them know how bad it is. Emily would have to stay at the hospital for a few days to recover. They immediately agreed to it, wanting the best for Emily.

The few days past. Emily was out of the hospital and almost as fit as she used to be. Of course it would take some time. But she eventually recovered completely. When they got back to school, she was known as the girl who got shot. Of course the entire town heard of it. But it slowly disappeared and that's when they left for uni. They got a little apartment together and focused on their studies without having to worry about any of their past trauma or drama.

Anne ended up asking Sofia out, who gladly accepted. They unfortunately broke after a few years, as Anne went back to France. But they still stayed friends, happy to have each other in their lives.

Olivia's father happily married his co-worker who then became Olivia's step-mother, but she didn't mind. As long as her father was happy, she wouldn't complain.

As for Emily and Olivia, well, their story didn't stop at uni. Actually, their story didn't end at all. They're now in their 30's, Olivia a successful musician and Emily is ironically the principal of their old school. An odd couple, but a perfect one at the same time. They never ran out of love for each other and always supported one another in their decisions. Now, they live in a pretty house with two foster children and their three dogs and their cat. Life is overwhelming sometimes, but being surrounded by the right people makes it truly easier.

Olivia got home after a session at the studio. She walks to her room and is cleaning their closet when she finds a box. She opens it and finds pictures of Emily and her from when they were kids. She then finds a letter. She smiles.

Dear Best Friend,

I don't really know how to tell you this, but I love you. And no, not in a friend way. But I am 14 so I might be talking nonsense. Would be nothing new. But I feel all bubbly when I'm around you. I love when you hug me even if I would never admit it. You make me happy. You make me feel okay. So I just want you to know, that me, Emily Quinn, want you, Olivia ISABEL Rodrigo, as my forever person. Dear Best Friend, never leave me.

Yours truly,

Em.

And so it stays. Olivia never left Emily. Emily always loved Olivia. They were lucky to find their best friend and lover in one person.
