Safe Heaven

"I  don't see how this is getting any less cultish" She breathed out. Upon taking Davids hand and following him deeper into the cave only to end up in an older hotel room littered with candles and records.

"Would you stop with the whole cult thing. God Dawn this is serious." His face was filled with worry and instantly sat on the bed concerned for David no matter how mad at him see was.

"So this isn't a cult but its not completely normal either"

"Correct."

"Well then, what is it, what's up with you and the boys? We kissed and then you just left..If you didn't want me then you could have said"

David was shocked. It had been so long since her had interacted with humans of course she thought it was her. Moving closer to her still wearing a worried look he leaned down and rested his forehead on hers.

"Sunshine you couldn't fathom how bad I want you" a soft laugh and a smirk as he took in her scent being so close to her, rosemary vanilla and salt.  "I'm doing this for you, me and the boys we are, different. Once you see that your not gonna be around anymore."

She sighed enjoying how close to David she was again so badly wanting to close the gap between them.

"Well at least give me the choice I might surprise you." Dawn breathed out looking up at David with hopeful eyes as he flopped down on the bed pulling out a cigarette.

"I promised myself i would never lie to you Dawn, I intend to keep that promise,but please try to promise me you wont think of me any different." He looked over at her and was taken away by the kind smile she produced as she lye down next to him. Breathlessly she whispered

"You know I cant do that, they fact that you haven't told me already changes things but it doesn't mean I care about you any less." She simply smiled softly taking his cig and breathing it in deeply.

"Well for starters I'm not cheating on you with star. I'm teaching her how to be one of us."

" I didn't think you would gush about me to the girl you cheated on me with, and cheating implies dating which we are not, not yet anyway."

"Secondly I am a lot older than you might have first thought. Give or take a few hundreds of years."

This caused Dawn to lean on Davids chest looking into his eyes deeply. He wanted nothing more than to kiss her but he knew she was searching his face for a lie that was never there.

"Okay I believe you believe what you are saying."

This simply caused David to chuckle.

"And how does someone so old stay looking so incredibly handsome hmm?"

"Well I can show you but you have nothing to fear as scary as it may be."She could tell how serious he was not only from his tone but the icy chill it sent down her spin.

"Okay show me this proof." She said with a smile before all the colour drained from her face.

Laying under Dawn was no Longer the David she had known he was horrifying. All the bones in his face seemed to protrude outward making his feature look sharp and animistic. He hand fangs that shown through his tightly closed lips just being as still as he could so Dawn felt safe. His nails had grown to the sizes of hooks no doubt to catch some kind of prey.

Reaching up with one hand completely in shock she gently traced Davids face.It wasn't until he leaned into her touch that Dawn let out a small small smile, knowing it was her David no matter how he looked.

"All the boys are like this?"She spoke softly watching Davids face slowly go back to normal under her touch.

"Yes. We have been together a very long time. It may not be blood but they are my family, and yours still if you want them to be." He for the first time in years was afraid.

"What exactly are you? What do you have to do to stay like this."

David knew sooner or later she would need to be told the cost of this life, of all the endless fun.

"We are vampires. We need to drink blood in order to survive, but it goes beyond that I wont lie to you Dawn. There is an animal in us all that loves to hunt and the screams. They boys and I direct it towards the people that try to harm us or people on the boardwalk." He ran his hand along her face watching as she listened laying on his chest still.

"The man who turned us is different. He long since forgot human feelings,kills without guilt or remorse. Evil men,innocent women and children. It doesn't matter. Don't tell Star but he turned her. In his own sick way she was supposed to be a gift to me. We have been here feeding her animal blood trying to keep her thirst under control so she doesn't hurt anyone. I don't want her knowing that a monster gave her this life, so she thinks I found her and saved her from a group of men."

"And that still doesn't explain why you had everyone avoid me." Dawn smiled softly knowing just how to get a chuckle out of David when he was looking so distraught.

"I didn't want Max to see you and think you were a threat to his 'perfect' family. He'd most likely try to kill you."

"Try?"

"Id never let him hurt you. I feel more human than I have in years when I'm around you. I don't know what it is, but I cant shake this feeling that we are supposed to be together." He gently took her hand in his and kissed it softly.

So Dawn found out the truth and it scared her shitless, but she agreed with David and the feelings she was having for him. Looking at the worry etched on his face waiting for her to say something she did the only thing she wanted to do all week. Crawling on top of David she kissed his lips softly as he wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her close to deepen the kiss. When she pulled away he couldn't help but let out a chuckle holding her tight to his chest.

"God David you really scared me you know. I don't care whats going on, I don't care what you are. Never avoid me like that again." She hid her face in his chest breathing in the smell of smoke as his chest shook as he laughed.

"Okay Sunshine sounds like a plan."

"Okay good."

"So this mean we are dating huh?" She simply got off his chest and smacked him in the face with a pillow leaving the room to go to the main part of the cave. David following behind laugh wearing a smile that instantly made his brother smile.

"So she knows." David announced to Dwayne who instantly stood up and walked over to Dawn.

"I'm sorry we avoided you."Without giving her time to respond Dwayne pulled her into a hug only letting go once her felt her hug him back.

David Simply wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his lap as her sat in his wheelchair. Blowing out smoke as he heard her laugh while she held his hand. They would have to come up with a plan her knew that. He knew that outside this place on the boardwalk they couldn't be seen together. Right now in this moment all he cared about was that he finally had her back in his arm, that he didn't have to hide anything from her and they could simply exist together in his safe heaven.
