Dawn and David had spent the last week packing her family home, getting her affairs in order. All her pots and pans everything she would use to cook or garden would stay in her home, she wasn't planning on selling it, and sure she would spend some nights in the basement, but it would be so different. She had a new family and a new idea of home. It was so different from everything she knew. All her pictures and grandmother's jewelry would come with her along with clothes. David told her not to worry about anything for the room besides anything sentimental, he put up a fight about it.
"Because Dawn this is serious, just let me handle the room, what kind of man would I be if I didn't do something for the occasion?"
She couldn't help but laugh to herself thinking about it sitting in his chair and waiting for her family to return, tonight was the night she would become one of them. They picked the date together because according to the newspaper Marko looted off a dead man it was supposed to be the nicest night of the summer. David only wanted her to have the best. He had prepared so much for tonight and let her have it however she wanted it.
So to say he looked pissed when he walked into the cave was an understatement. Dawn stood up smiling when he walked in wearing a scowl it was directed at Star whose hand he was holding. Paul and Marko walked in more calmly than usual and Dwyane went right to the couch. Then a stranger covered in dirt, but it wasn't a stranger at all it was that boy on the bike from all those nights ago. Micheal looked around the cave with wonder and that is when Dawn realized they were still putting on a show.
David's eyes gave away the whole game as they bore into hers. The relief to be coming home to her was right there if only you knew where to look.
"This was the hottest resort in Santa Carla back about 80 years ago. Too bad, they built it right on top of a fault line." All the boys had a wild glint in their eyes as they watched David spin the web, it even drew Dawn in because she jumped when he loudly clapped his hands together.
Her flinch didn't go unnoticed by Micheal who was piecing all kinds of wrong information together in his head.
"In 1906, when the big one hit San Francisco, the ground opened up and this place did a header into the ground." Finally sitting on his throne, David's eyes scanned over every area of the cave, drinking in his Dawn wearing the red dress she had picked from her grandma Sophies closet, she wanted to wear something of hers on a night such as this. Timeless was the only word he could think of. Her figure is wrapped in Satin and tulle. David thought she looked almost as bright as the moon. And oh how her lips almost drove him to madness, painted the perfect shade of red, if there was a god David was thanking him.
"Wow, Dawn you look incredible!" Star ran over wearing a warm sisterly smile and hugged her tightly.
Whispering in her ear ever so quietly.
"I'm so sorry, I told him to come without thinking." Dawn just nodded and walked over to David, who had not taken his eyes off her.
"Come on Micheal, We should go." Star tried dragging him away but the spider had caught the fly and the boy was curious about the monster.
"No. Stick around, tonight is a special night."They would not be going anywhere.
"Well, we were gonna get some food," David smirked
"Very good idea, Marko?"
"I'm on it, Dawn any special requests?" He walked over wearing a bold smile he dare not wear on the boardwalk.
"Just my regular, please. Thank you, Marko." Who was this elegant woman they all looked to, and why were they being so different around her? Micheal was beginning to see that if David was the king this was the Queen, and she wore her title well.
