By the time Dawn woke David was gone, leaving all but a single flower on the pillow next to hers. A smile spread across her face as she searched for her clothes from the night before. Sunlight just barely made its way through the room giving an explanation as to why David was nowhere to be found. While it was later than dawn had thought there was still time enough for her to ride home and sell some produce, truth be told Dawn never expected to be spending the night with David when she first stormed down the beach to the cave last night.
Getting dressed and stretching out Dawn cleaned up the beer cans that littered the floor from their celebrations the night before. Pulling a small box over to the entrance of the cave so she could hop out without anyone's help. Walking up the stairs wind blowing through her hair she turned to face the ocean sun glittering the water. Sea breeze blowing hot against her face in contrast form the coolness the cave brought, raising her hands above her head she smiled as wilding as so could taking in her life, her new family.
Reaching the top of the stairs She couldn't help but smile as the boys brought her moped and parked it next to the boys bikes the sight was almost comical. The boy's bikes all lined up looked almost intimidating and the contrast of Dawns little bike was hysterical. Seeing the keys placed lovingly placed on the seat of David's bike Dawn grabbed then and took off in the direction of the Market. Feeling bold in the glow of the events of last night Dawn rode up on the boardwalk listening to the gasps and whistles from families pulling kids out of the way and men just watching her as she laughed with the wind blowing through her hair.
Once she finally neared The Green Onion Dawn rode up the hill to quickly grab her wagon and her freshly picked produce. She laughed running down the hill, while some stands open mid-day, hers was always open in the morning. Running through the door to the market and hurriedly stocking the stands. A laugh sounded from behind her causing her to jump a bit.
"Wow someone's in late I was beginning to get worried for a sec." Nathan asked her with a raised eyebrow.
"God Nathan! I almost dropped all the fruit." Dawn breathed out placing her things down and taking a moment to clear her head before she continued.
"Not to mention the fact that I'm grown women, you don't need to worry about me dude." she looked at Nathan with a tired expression.
"Well, your normally never late and we are friends it's my job to worry about you." Throwing an arm over her shoulder he let out a laugh as she sold her produce to a customer.
A purplish mark on Dawns necks drew Nathans attention to it.
"Whose been sucking your neck huh?" Nathan poked her on the mark as her hands shot up to cover it. Rushing over to a mirror Dawn cursed to herself seeing Davids's mark right there out and about on her neck blushing at the thoughts of the night before.
"Well for your information, I was at my boyfriend's last night that's why I was late this afternoon." She calmly smoothed out her curls before covering her neck with her hair and going back to work. A look of hurt flashed in Nathans eyes, even if her feelings would never be his, he thought Dawn would be close enough to tell him about the important things in her life. Seeing as she was never late to work before this boyfriend of hers seemed to mean a great deal to her, and apparently Nathan was the last to know about it.
"Well, I'm glad you had a good time than." Nathan wore a sad smile as he walked away from Dawn, knowing in the deepest parts of himself, his chance was over, and it was time to move on from the childhood things he held on to with her. Before she could even stop to ask him, what was wrong a woman walked over to her wearing a look of confusion and concern. She wants like most people from around here not dressed for the summer weather or particularly beachy looking.
"Excuse me? Could I maybe ask you for directions? I'm looking for my father's house he lives just a little outside of town he told me to look for the fruit stand and I was wondering if this address is near here?" Her voice was soft and gentle and filled with anxiety.
"Of course, ma'am I'll help you if I can." Dawn flashed her a smile and looked at the paper she was holding out.
"Oh no need to call me Ma'am you can just call me Lucy" She gave a sheepish smile while looking at the produce that filled Dawns stands. "Your produce looks amazing; do you grow it all yourself?"
"Well yes I do I inherited my grandma's green thumb very early on. My Name is Dawn, and I will be able to help you actually, I'm the closest person that happens to live by your fathers!" Dawn Handed lucy back the paper with the address on it pointing to the dirt road running up the hill. "If you take that dirt road up the hill, you'll see a blue house with a big garden, that will be my house, if you pass that and go all the way down that road, you'll reach your father's house in no time. "
"Oh, how wonderful, we are going to be neighbors then it seems. I'm moving in with my two boys!" Lucy smiled happily just glad to know that the sweet young girl was going to be her neighbor and not some troublemaker. Before she could ask the young girl about herself, she took off with a small basket filling it will all kinds of vegetables and fruits.
Quickly walking back over to her new neighbor Dawn held out a basket with a smile.
"Here take this consider it a welcome to the neighborhood for you and your family!"
"Oh, dear that's to kind thank you so much, this all looks lovely. I hope I'll be seeing you around!" Lucy said as she turned and walked away from the girl a warm welcome sitting in her chest. Dawn waved from the stand happy to work the rest of the day thinking of her own family that lie back in the cave.
