DAY 1, THURSDAY, OCTOBER
K: So you're the new one?
H: I am. Unless there's another, in which case I'm one of the new ones.
K: No, it's just you.
H: Alright.
K: Because who would ever want to work here?
H: Do you not work here?
K: I do. I just don't know why I ever started.
H: Oh.
K: But the people here are really nice. It's great here.
H: Okay.
K: Welcome, by the way.
H: Thanks.
K: I'm K. Nice to meet you.
H: I'm H, nice to meet you too.
K: Alright H, since I had my scheduled break at the time you'd arrive, I was asked to give you your uniform.
H: Great. I don't have one yet.
K: Exactly. Which is why I'm giving you it.
H: Good.
K: So here it is. The brightest shade of red you've ever seen. Nice large logo on the back. You'll fit right in with the rest of us.
H: I see.
K: Do you work today?
H: Yes.
K: You can change in the bathroom, it's right around the corner.
H: That's handy.
K: It is. Especially if you're scheduled for an entire day. Tell me, why did you want to work here?
H: It seemed like fun.
K: They all say that in the first week.
H: Why did you start here?
K: I needed a first job. I really didn't care what it was. In hindsight, I might have wanted to do at least a little research.
H: That's... honest.
K: Thanks.
H: If you don't like it, why are you still here?
K: If I live through this, I can do anything I want. No experience will ever be as awful as this one. I'll come out the other way stronger than ever.
H: I guess so.
K: Also, it's too much of a hassle to leave and find another job. And I don't want to have an exit interview with the manager. I don't like them.
H: Sure.
K: But it's a great place to work, really. Welcome. If you have any questions you can always ask me.
H: Good to know. Thank you.
K: Do you know anyone who works here?
H: I don't thinks so.
K: There, on the board on the wall, hang like ten different sheets of paper. They're all something different. Look at that when you have time.
H: I will.
K: One of those is the schedule for this week. There's two more like that one for the following two weeks.
H: That's handy.
K: Yeah, but not my point.
H: Sorry.
K: All the employees are listed on it. See if you recognize any names. It's a relatively small town. We're all from here. All of us except for R, and the manager and assistant manager. You'll meet them eventually.
