DAY 390, MONDAY, OCTOBER
K: Did you hear? L is in the hospital.
H: What? Since when?
K: Yesterday. Or the day before that. I don't know.
H: How do you know something happened to them?
K: I overheard T asking the manager if they could leave earlier so they can make it to the visiting hours. They should be joining us in the stock room to get their stuff soon.
H: How do you know it's about L then?
K: It could be their parents, sure. But who was contacted by the manager earlier today with the question to work extra hours because L 'can't make them'?
H: I see. Do you know what happened?
K: No. Maybe they walked into a river.
H: How would that happen?
K: They like star stuff, right? What if he was looking up and didn't notice where they were walking.
H: They aren't dumb. They'd sit down to watch.
K: If you say so. We don't know when it happened.
H: I was on a call with them last Saturday. In the evening.
K: Did you hear monitors or nurses?
H: No. They were on his way back from tennis practice.
K: Since when do they play tennis?
H: No idea. But my point was that they were fine. It must've happened in the time since then.
T: What happened since then?
K: There you are. Question.
T: What is it?
K: What happened to L?
T: Hit by a car.
H: When did that happen?
T: Saturday night.
K: Didn't you talk to L Saturday night?
H: I did.
T: What do you mean?
H: I was on a call with them.
T: Did they get hit while you were on the call?
K: H would have known. Right?
H: Yeah. I don't think they were hit during the call.
T: Were they biking while on the call?
H: Yes.
K: Maybe after they hung up they put the phone in their pocket or something. They might have not paid attention then.
T: Why did they call you? When they were actively taking part in traffic?
H: I don't know! I texted them and they called back instead.
T: What did you text?
H: That's... not important.
K: It's not H's fault, T.
T: That's not what I'm saying.
K: I can see it in your eyes. You want to put blame on something. Or someone.
H: I'm sorry.
T: It's not your fault. L shouldn't have called you.
K: Exactly.
H: I could have hung up, though. I knew he was biking. In the dark as well. I... shit. I'm sorry.
T: Whatever. I should go if I want to make it t visiting hours.
