Chapter Five ‡

The days went by, weeks went by, the school and everything wasn't the same again.

No evidence yet, every time i asked my dad to ask the officer all he says is that they are working on it. Nothing else.

I'm not going to sit down all day while a murderer is at lose.

I made a promise to my self and also to Mariam. May her soul rest in peace.
That I was going to get to the bottom of this no matter the cost.

Nigerian police, same excuse they gave us three weeks that they are still working on the case.

In the country, millions of people's life are being lost daily. People are being duped, murdered and our officers just give the same story and excuse.

This won't be the case for Mariam. I would ensure that her murder and everyone involved in her death is put behind bars and she's given the justice that she needs.

" Asake, don't spend your time thinking about Mariam. You have exams coming soon, your WAEC's also drawing near. Don't ruin your future over someone who isn't here again." My mom says while patting my head with a concerned face.

I bit my lips " But how could you say that mom, if it was your child that got killed, would you forget or if it was your friend that got killed, and you saw her lifeless body, would you just abandon the person with the daily torment and reminder of her in your mind wherever you go?"

" Don't mention death in the house omo mi( My child) I care for you and I understand what you might be going through as well, but Mariam is dead, you aren't, you have a life ahead of you. Let the police do their job, do yours as a friend and a student. Pray for her and continue with your studies."

"But how do you expect me to pray to God, when I know that she was killed and that her mates would grow and marry and she won't be able to do all this because she is dead..?"

" God knows best, We don't know why things happened, we can't question the almighty."

" But if God knows best, he would surely have let her life to fulfill her glory on earth, not killed"

" This discussion is getting over heated, don't get sick because of this, I've told you stay out of this, Let the police do their job and hand everything to God, we would be praying for Mariam that God brings her murderer to book. Now get up,go and bath and do something productive with your time." She stood up and went to her room.

My mom was really right. I have a future, but my conscience pricked me , I must get Justice for Mariam.

I take out my old jotter, I start my own detective work.

The first step is to find those girls that were planning to eliminate someone.

If I could get them to be my friends, I could get them to tell me the person they were planning for to leave the school who I'm suspecting was Mariam by the way.
