Chapter Eighteen

My breath hitched. I turned to face it and found out rather quickly who it was. I had never met him before, but Amon had shown me him. He'd been Amelia's fiancee. Amelia, who had been one of the women who'd fallen victim to Liam's charm and had her life force stolen by Victor. She'd died a horrible death for no reason except she'd come over from Canada and met the guys.

It was confusing at first to understand exactly what he was doing right now. We'd never met, and I wasn't sure how long it had been since Amelia's death. I remembered him from my vision. Sandy brown hair, light green eyes. He'd been a fairly good-looking guy, but he looked so different now. His eyes were crazed, bloodshot, and pained. His hair and beard were long and unkempt. He looked at me with hatred and somehow he knew I knew them, but why be here?

"Plea-

"Shut up," he commanded silently, voice full of malicious intent as he put the gun closer to my head.

What did I do? Admit I knew them or act like I didn't? What was the right answer here and what did I do? He was a human, so not exactly Amon's level, but to me, he was still a very real threat. Louis, who'd be my best chance, probably wouldn't come over here in time unless he had a vision.

"Please, what do you want?" I choked out calmly, holding my hands up to show him I wasn't going to try to put up a fight.

"You know them," he stated.

"What are you talking about?"

"You know their evil. Those men you're with. They killed Amelia. She was everything to me and they took her."

"Britt?" Aubrey called, and I met his eyes pleadingly.

I didn't know if he was going to hurt me or not, but I didn't want him to hurt Aubrey if he planned to. Not only did I not want her to see this, but I didn't want her to know what was going on. I couldn't have her be scared or feel threatened. I had to do what I could to keep her safe.

"Stay in there for a minute, okay?" I called back, trying to disguise my shaky voice.

"Who's that?" he demanded.

"She's a child, a little girl, and she's just trying to use the bathroom. She's five years old. I don't want her to get scared or see this," I explained.

"They're just going to corrupt you and her like they do all the others," he laughed bitterly, his hands trembling, and I eyed the gun.

"What makes you think something happened to this, Amelia?" I tried to play dumb.

"This Amelia was my fiancee, but you knew that, didn't you? She went to Berkely, and they got her under their spell and she was gone. I know they killed her. Your friend Carter told me that."

Carter? How did he know what had really happened? Was that true, or was he telling a lie? Why discuss this with Amelia's fiancee? How did he even know him? Had he sent him to do this?

"I don't know Carter, he's not my friend."

"Those monsters are going to kill you. You know you're about Amelia's size too?"

"They won't kill me, but I'm not sure about you. Are you going to kill me?" I questioned calmly, although my knees were shaking so much I felt like I might fall.

All this time I'd been fearing the true evils like Victor, Amon, Shika, Liam. Yet here was a human. A presumably normal human who was here threatening me and I wanted to sob all over again. Right now he was just as terrifying as they were when he was here threatening my life.

"You think they aren't going to kill you? Why not?" he demanded, stepping closer to me.

"They haven't so far," I say weakly because I fear saying something else would upset him.
