Chapter Twenty-Six

I was stunned into silence. Mom was stunned and her eyes as wide as saucers as she gazed down at him. Emotion filled her face and for just a moment I thought I saw hesitance.

Then a moment later she broke out into a wide smile as her eyes filled with tears. I hadn't seen her this happy since dad but this wasn't right. No. She couldn't say yes but she couldn't say no. I feared what might happen if she said yes but I feared what might happen if she said no.

"Yes!" Mom breathed.

"No!" Jayden and I both yelled but it was drowned out by the crowd's applause.

Everyone was so happy it was sickening as he placed the ring on her finger. Standing to his feet he envelopes her into the hug as they shared a long passionate kiss. I couldn't take this. I wouldn't take this. I couldn't look.

I turned away needing to get outside the room as fast as I could. I heard footsteps behind me but I wasn't sure who exactly was following me. I jumped as their hand reached my shoulder and it was Louis and Niles first followed by Liam I felt tears prick my eyes.

"Why would he do that? Why god she can't marry him," I said the desperate tears falling down my face.

"Britt calm down," Niles said putting his hands on my shoulders but I shook my head.

"She can't marry him and she said yes."

"You need to breathe," Liam instructed.

Breathe? I couldn't breathe right now. My mom had just agreed to marry the devil. A former angel who literally controlled all our lives and made us do evil things. He'd ordered some of us to kill a pregnant woman while her other children were present in the house hoping they'd be killed as well. Threatened Megan while she was pregnant by putting his burning hand on her stomach and refusing to move it. He'd put hands on her and he'd put hands on Lily and me.

He'd tried to kill Megan and Abel in the hospital so Liam and I would give up our son to fight in Armageddon. The horrible things he'd showed us and that included me. He'd come into my room and held me down and I'd thought he might have raped me then and there. I may have never told anyone but I couldn't believe it was a simple nightmare. It had happened I was certain of it. He's taunted Max about the loss of her parent's home and made Megan believe she could bring Abel back causing her and Henry more pain. He'd done it tonight it mentioning those we lost.

All this and he'd just asked Mom to marry him to become his wife. My mom had a husband and that was Vicent my guardian and most importantly my father. He wouldn't want mom to marry him. He would know the danger it put us all in. He'd be the stepfather to Jay and me. We had a father and that was our dad. Victor would be a terribly creepy and horrifying stepfather.

"Britt," Jay's voice rang out and Niles moved away letting my shoulders go as I met his eyes.

Mattie was right behind him a concerned expression on her face and the others had filed back here with us. Rather than focus on them, I focused on my brother and I could see it in his eyes as well. The fear and pain at what he'd just witnessed. Our mom agreeing to marry that monster. Her happiness and the fact she had no clue who and what she was really marrying. This was too much.

"Jay," I breathed.

"We have to stop this. She can't marry him. There has to be something we can do," he frowned looking at us.

"The truth is we can't do anything as we are specifically unable to disobey his orders if he really doesn't want us to. It's a part of the curse I'm afraid. Furthermore, whatever his reasons are for asking her hand in marriage you can't interfere. You risk putting everyone in danger including her," Liam explained.
