Chapter one.. The begining

We arrive outside the queen Victoria pub in Albert square, I get out the car and look up, "what do you think?" Mick asks me looking at me while putting his arm on my lower back,
"Yeah it's nice" I mutter looking to mick, I run my hand through my brown hair and sigh, I no mick wanted a fresh start and something that was ours but I was nervous I hated change, but this was going to work, I look to Jonny micks son and I smile, "come on Elle, this is going to be great" he whispers putting his arm around me. mick and Jonny enter the vic, and I stand there looking around taking in the new surroundings,
"This is going to work" I tell myself putting on a smile, seeing the removal van pull up,
Mine and micks relationship has been going ok, we been together for three years now but living so close to micks ex Linda put a lot of strain on us especially when it come to the kids, especially Jonny there youngest, Jonny and I got on really well, I got on ok with all the kids if I'm honest it might be my age being 28 might mean I can relate to them.

I enter the queen vic and look around I walk behind the bar and smile, "I can do this" I tell myself stand there looking around. I then feel hands on my hips and I look up to mick, "you ok darling" he asks me "I couldn't be better" I say looking up behind my self to him.

I get woken up the next morning by the duvet cover being pulled off our bed, I start to blame mick but he said it weren't him there was only one other person or should I say thing it could be that was micks dog lady, I lay on my back and mick moves and looks at his bulldog, "I really think we need to invest in an alarm clock" "we don't need to with her" I say patting the bed and inviting the dog up on the bed
"Here we are Elle, first day of the rest of our lives, it's a new beginning" mick said looking to me I look at him and lean in giving him a kiss, there then was a bang, I get up and look out the window, "what the" I mutter looking to mick "yeah there's something I really need to tell you but I forgot" he said throwing him self out of bed leaving me looking out the window shocked

I grab my robe and throw it on as mick throws on is clothes
"Why the hell didn't you tell me, I'm not happy about this mick"
"If it wasn't for Shirley we wouldn't even have this place"
"I understand that mick but we not talking about a one of visit you said they can move in, Tina I don't mind but Shirley noway, she's never liked me mick" I yell from behind him as we are going down the stairs
"So your saying one of them can move but the other, that not an option"
"Ok well I'm leaving then, I'm outta here, I'm not living with someone who can't stand the ground I walk on"
"Ellie"
"No I will go I'm gone"
All of a sudden there was Shirley bashing on the door hollering for us to open up.
"Ellie just hear me out" mick drags me into the kitchen of the pub, I looked around as I hadn't yet looked around in here,
"I wanted this pub because I wanted to be around my sisters Elle, I haven't had that in years, so if your going to be mad be mad at me"
"I am mad at you"
"No I mean proper mad throwing cup and glasses type mad"
"There's a frying pan here will that do"
"We have a pub to open, I can't do that from a hospital bed. I get how you feel, but I want you to think about how I feel"
"I get how you feel I really do mick,"
Next thing I heard Tina yelling from inside. "there inside, how did they get in" I went to walk of but mick grabs my arm and pulls me back "a new start you told me" I yell at him
"Easy Elle, as long as I have you and you have me we can get through any thing"
"Mick aren't you forgetting, she stole money from you from us"
"Yes and I spoke to her about that, that won't be happening again, I will make her pay I will have her cleaning out the toilets or something"
"Ok fine but if it goes wrong and I reckon it will I want you to step up, you hear me"
"I will okay I will"
Mick leans in kissing me a kiss that I really didn't want to end but I knew it would have to. he pulls away and we leave the kitchen I put on a big smile to greet our new full time guests.

We enter the pub and I greet Shirley and Tina feeling under dressed as I was still in my pjs
"Good morning" I say with a smile
"Look here they are thought you had changed your mind or something" Shirley mutters to us giving me a glaring look
"What us, no never" I say with a smile
"Ok right the good news is there's room for you both" mick said with a smile Tina and Shirley both smile "the bad news is it's in the same room" Tina makes a ahh sound  sounding gutted "listen we need the other room incase nancy shows up. so here we all are the carters, the vic"

I'm downstairs cleaning up the bar ready for us to open up micks on the phone to my mum, I told him to tell her that I'm busy I really didn't fancy talking to her yet, I was glad to be away from her, she can sometimes be a little for full on.
Mick goes down to the cellar to turn the pumps on and comes back "I don't believe this but we have an hour and a half till we open and we have no beer, how many was drinking in here yesterday, a million" mick said looking across the bar to Shirley waiting for an answer
"Well the moons had a deal on, a pound a drink"
"Now she tells us" I say putting my hands on my hips, "hang weren't you in here too"
"Yeah Tina was too" Shirley said head gesturing to Tina up the other end of the bar
"We're almost out of spirits too and snacks" Tina said while putting crips into her mouth
"You worked in a supermarket can't you get us some stuff" I plead to Shirley
"I worked" she reminds me
"We need it on tick" mick said to her
"I don't work there I chucked it in"
"Oh great, outstanding" I mutter to her
"I didn't no this was going to happen, did i" Shirley yells at me"
"Mick time to step up, bye Shirley, your bad luck" I say harshly
"Look Ellie, go upstairs run your self a bath and go and relax by the time you have finished all this will be sorted, I promise" mick said kissing my forhead.

When I come downstairs after having a bath and getting dressed I enter the bar and micks standing there with the bar already to go "you done it" I say but not sounding surprised "didn't i say I would, so how about we put our selfs on the map"
"Go on then" I smile
me Tina and Jonny stand there with a smile as mick opens the door and we wait for the punters to start walking through the doors, seconds later a man called Alfie  walks through the door with two other men Alfie introduces them as billy and tel
"What will it be handsome" I ask the guy named billy "he will have a snowball" Alfie jokes I chuckle and look to billy "larger" he asks I turn to mick and I smile at him as I grab a pint glass.

It's the next day and I get up an start trying to get our home into order I start unpacking boxes. I walk past the kitchen and see mick reading something
"Has you secret admirer been writing you love letters again" I joke I walk off putting the box down.
I walk back into the kitchen and walk in and grab a cup "I can't wait to make this place feel like our home"
Then Tina and Shirley come walking in moaning and arguing about sharing the room
Later that night we are back behind the bar Jonny ask I we had any crips "do you want some crips, I will grab some crips for you"
"Let the boy get himself his own crips"
"Here get this lady a vodka" I pass the glass to mick and i go off to get Jonny some crips
I hear the guy behind the bar talking to mick "come on you know what it's like dads and there daughters and mums and there sons"
I walk out and hand Jonny the crips "oh I'm not his mum, his not mine, step mum"  "oh sorry I thought"  "oh no problem" I say serving another punter

Mick goes off to play darts with the locals and Jonny joins them I stand and watch for a second he was with Alfie and tel and another man who I hadn't met yet
He walks over and introduces himself
"Hi I'm max, max branning"
"Hi Ellie Bowman" I say smiling at him
"hey mick you never said you had a good looking barmaid working for you" he calls to him
"Sorry I didn't but she not available, sorry fella"
"Max that's micks girlfriend" Alfie explains causing max to turn a rather bright shade of red.
"I'm sorry" max mutters quietly
"No probs I'm used to being hit on by desperate men" I mumble as I walk off to serve another punter
