It was over in a matter of seconds. One moment, Overhaul was fighting with vigour. The next, he was lying on the ground, a puddle of blood pooling below him. Heroes and Villains alike gawked with widened eyes as they observed the scene.
Using his foot, Izuku pushed Overhaul's face deeper into the concrete. The shape of his head may have already been engraved into the stone, but Overhaul's expression remained dull—his eyes were rolled to the back of his head, his mouth slightly agape as blood escaped through his lips.
However, despite the motionless body below the heel of his boot, Izuku checked his nails. He was planning on painting them black, or red…
"Izuku!" His thoughts were abruptly disrupted when a familiar voice called out his name. Turning to its source, Izuku's face darkened upon seeing Katsuki running up to him with tears streaming down his face.
It wasn't long before a pair of arms wrapped around his torso and lips joined with his. Izuku didn't try to pry Katsuki off of him. Instead, he snaked his arms around the blond's neck and deepened the long-awaited kiss.
It was passionate enough to send the two lovers into a spiral of affection. Izuku couldn't stop the tears flowing from his eyes as he closed them, his arms around Katsuki's neck tightening slightly. He hadn't realised how much he had missed the other's touch, too consumed with his business and whatnot…
To both of their disappointment, Izuku decided to pull away and look into Katsuki's eyes regretfully. He didn't want to leave again… but he had to. His work was not finished; Shigaraki was still breathing.
He wanted… no, he needed to push away. But his heart ached at the mere thought. The implication of leaving his loved one once more ripped him from the inside.
"Katsuki…"
"Bakugou…?"
Two pairs of red eyes, one artificial and the other glistening with tears, snapped to a specified direction. There, stiff and shocked, was a small group of people who had joined in on that mission. Three people, to be exact.
Uraraka's eyebrows furrowed as she stared at the two. It must have looked strange—Katsuki's arms were wrapped around a Villain's waist, and the Villain had his hands on Katsuki's shoulders.
Anyone who took a glimpse at the scene would jump to conclusions at the first sight.
"Bakugou?" Uraraka uttered again. Her voice was clearer, this time; sterner. The anger in her tone couldn't be hidden even with a thousand voice modifiers. "What are you… doing with a Villain?"
Broken out of their stupors, Izuku and Katsuki quickly removed their hands from each other. "I… can explain," the blond muttered.
No, he couldn't. Izuku knew, based on Katsuki's expression, that he was cursing up a storm in his head as he searched for a plausible explanation.
"No!" Uraraka yelled, taking a step back. "What's there to explain? You… you're together with a Villain. With Decipher, no less!"
Now, that was just offensive. Izuku frowned. What's wrong with being with him specifically? And did she forget that he was right there?
"Uraraka, calm down," amongst the small group of people, Nighteye emerged and placed a hand on her shoulder. That didn't seem to hinder Uraraka, however, as she seemingly didn't even register his existence.
"And… and Midoriya? What would he think, if he saw you with him?" Again, what was so wrong with being with him…
Before Katsuki could lash out, Izuku grabbed his arm and pulled him close. The people watching—Uraraka, Asui, Nighteye and Bubblegirl—got into a fighting stance on instinct.
Izuku breathed out a sigh. "Don't move, okay?" He whispered gingerly into his ear, not bothering to wait for a response before he wrapped his hand around Katsuki's neck. Then with a louder, more threatening voice, he glared at the Heroes. "Try to attack, and Mr Dynamight gets it."
Izuku made sure to stare directly at Uraraka, Asui or Bubblegirl, avoiding eye contact with Nighteye at all costs. With a Quirk like that, he could easily figure out that Izuku was just bluffing.
But now…
How was he going to get out of this one? Should he just kill them all? No… Katsuki probably liked them; he would be upset if they died.
Suddenly, every instinct in Izuku's body screamed at him to dodge to the left. Not thinking much about it, he stepped to the side, bringing Katsuki with him. A bullet rushed past him, embedding itself into Bubblegirl's head.
Uraraka and Asui's screams soon followed, the two of them staring at Bubblegirl's corpse in horror. Izuku's eyebrows furrowed, and he quickly looked behind him. His face blanched, eyes widening further at the sight of a horde approaching them.
One of them had a gun pointed in their direction, and Izuku could recognise that face from a mile away. Shigaraki Tomura.
"Shit," he cursed, turning to the Heroes and pulling Katsuki closer to him. "Run and call for backup! The Paranormal Liberation Front is coming this way!"
"Para…?" Nighteye raised a brow, but when he saw the approaching army, he immediately complied, his face becoming a few shades lighter. He did momentarily look back at Bubblegirl's dead body, but only winced and turned back away.
"Bu…Bubblegirl…" Asui gasped, tears pricking at the edges of her eyes. Her gloved hand covered his mouth, her entire body shaking with fear. Uraraka was reacting similarly.
"Didn't the two of you hear me?" They slowly turned their heads towards Izuku, seeing his panicked expression. "Fucking scram!"
With that push of motivation, the two girls scrambled to leave the area, water blurring their vision. Izuku turned to Katsuki, who couldn't seem to take his eyes off of the corpse.
"Kacchan," Izuku caressed his lover's cheeks, staring into his eyes caringly. "Stay strong, alright? I'll finish up, and we can be together again."
"Shit. She…" tears pooled in Katsuki's eyes, and a spike of anger rushed through Izuku's veins. He took a sharp intake of breath. "Bubblegirl…"
"Don't worry, Love," Izuku's fingers brushed against his cheek, "I will avenge your friend. So, get to safety. Alright?"
With a slow, shaky breath, Katsuki nodded meekly and rushed to join the other Heroes. Izuku watched his retreating back, his hand reaching up to touch his ear. Once he tapped his black, circular earring, it flashed blue.
"What is taking so long? Hurry and get here," he hissed into his secret earpiece.
"One step ahead of ya," a voice said from beside him. Izuku didn't even seem to notice, however, as he reached towards the metal cylinder strapped to his thigh.
Once unclipped, that metal cylinder unravelled to reveal a scythe. Izuku spun it around for a moment, quickly adjusting to its weight. He looked behind him to find Tasei, along with an army of his own. Awaiting his command.
A crazed grin formed on his face, before he turned to Shigaraki's army in front of him. The two hordes faced off against each other. Any past or future they may have had together had been obliterated.
Because, at that moment…
"Let there be a lesson taught by this, Shigaraki Tomura," Izuku spoke first, crimson eyes glinting dangerously. "You and your subjects will always be below me. No matter how hard you try, by the end of this fearsome battle…
…The Paranormal Liberation Front will be the one falling."
A war began.
