It has been almost more than a month since Red has broken his leg, and he has just gotten picked up during the middle of the school day to go to the doctor. He told Yellow his leg is going to get inspected, and they will tell him if he can ditch the crutches or not.
Yellow prayed for the rest of the school day that he would be able to get rid of his crutches. Though Yellow did enjoy Red joining the yearbook club with her and their friends, Yellow knew Red was craving to be back in the track team.
Yellow's thought process stopped for a minute. He will still have to wear his boot, he just won't have crutches... Yellow face-palmed herself. She got too ahead of herself.
Either way, Yellow was excited to see if her friend would keep his crutches or not.
. . .
In the morning, Yellow didn't see Red on the walk to school. Yellow sighed. She thinks he didn't get his crutches off, after all. How sad.
Yellow made it to school. She saw Red's car pull up right when she got there. What a surprise! Yellow watched Red get out of the car. To Yellow's surprise, he didn't have his crutches with him after all.
"Red! Where were you this morning?" Yellow said, walking to her friend.
"My mom insisted on giving me a ride this morning... Sorry, Yellow." He said. "But look! I don't need crutches anymore!"
Yellow grinned at her happy friend. "That's great!"
. . .
Yellow walked out of her sixth period class door, feeling as happy as she was in the morning when Red told her the good news.
Suddenly, a teacher pulled Yellow aside. It was Yellow's gym teacher.
"Hello, Yellow!" The gym teacher said. "I'm sorry to pull you aside like this, but I was wondering if you would like to join the track team? A girl in the team just left, and we needed a good runner to take her place..."
Yellow's eyes lit up. "Sure!" She said without thinking. It was another way to hang out with Red, after all. Yellow knew both of the boys and girls competed together in after school sports.
"That's great! Go to the locker rooms in around ten minutes, alright? I'll see you there!"
The gym teacher then walked away, disappearing into the crowd of students. How did they even know Yellow was a good runner... Did the school know information about Yellow in her past school and that she was a member of the track team there? Maybe.
While Yellow walked to the locker rooms, she heard two kids snickering on the side of the hallway. Yellow walked closer to them, careful they won't notice her. Yellow was an eavesdropper by heart.
"Did you hear?" Kid one said.
"Hear what?" Kid two said.
"I heard that this kid named Silver got into another fight with a kid named Gold at lunch! Isn't that crazy?"
"Again? Really? That kid seems like a jerk..."
"I know, right?"
Yellow stepped away from the two kids. Yellow recognized that name. Silver. Wasn't Silver Blue's brother? Yellow couldn't exactly remember. She'll ask Blue later.
In the lockerooms, everyone was changing into their uniforms. Yellow felt weird to stare at other people, so she chose to stare at the ground instead. A girl came up to Yellow and tapped her shoulder.
"Hey, are you replacement for the other girl?" She said.
Yellow looked at the girl. She looked nice, also slightly older than Yellow. "Yeah, I am... I just don't know where to find my uniform."
The girl held out her hand to Yellow. "Well, I'm Daisy!" She said.
"'Nice to meet you! I'm Yellow!" Yellow grinned at her new friend. She hasn't even stepped foot onto the track and she now has a second friend in track!
"That's a nice name! Now come on! I'll show you to the gym teacher. They'll let you slide for the first day."
And Daisy was right. The gym teacher was chill, and they let Yellow wear her own clothes for today, but they said the next day she must wear the proper track uniform, which sounded like good news to Yellow.
"Alright, ladies and lads! Four laps around the track! Go, go, go!" The gym teacher shouted.
Yellow followed the group of kids, trailing a little bit behind. She was the shortest in the class, and short legs can't move as quickly as taller people's legs can.
Yellow looked at the bleachers as she Ran. She texted Red and he said he would be there to cheer her on, and there he was, sitting next to Green. Yellow was confused. Why was Green there?
After the mile, Yellow sat on the ground with Daisy, and they all drank water. Then ran more. And drank water... The process repeated for a while. Yellow sighed once the gym teacher announced they can now go home.
Yellow walked to where Red sat. To her surprise, Daisy was walking with her.
"Daisy? I thought you were going home." Yellow said.
"What do you mean? I'm going to walk home with my brother!" She said, walking towards Green.
Yellow stood there open-mouthed. How were these relationships all tied together like this? Yellow internally shrugged, and walked to Red.
"You did great out there for you first day!" Red said, giving his short friend a grin.
Yellow frowned. "I did great for a short person... Didn't you see me trail behind everyone?"
Red shrugged. "So? It was still your first day!" He looked at Green and Daisy. "Now come on, let's go walk home with them today!"
Before Yellow could say anything, she walked behind the three. What about the family rivalry Red was talking about between his family and the Oak family? Yellow shrugged, and walked next to the four, trying to be in the conversation.
Sometimes one friend is good enough, but when Yellow walks home with three people... It's tough.
But once Yellow heard the words "Castellia Cones" In the conversation, her attention level rised.
"Castellia cones??" She said.
"Yeah!" Daisy said. "Like the stand in Saffron City... You've been there before, haven't you?"
Yellow nodded. "Yes! It's sooo good!"
"I know, right?"
But at the same time for Yellow, it's also really easy to get into conversations just like that. Though once when Yellow gets home to Pallet Town, little would she know about what drama she is standing in the center of.
