Save him

Gabie

The pack doctor lives in a cute little hut. In Damon's haste he had pulled Lest's hand away from mine. I now sit in the chair that was offered to me by the young woman I learned was the doctor's daughter. Leia was her name. She's currently in the kitchen making me a warm drink. I run my thumb over the palm of my hand that was holding Lest's hand. It now feels cold, missing his warmth.

"That's a beautiful ring you got there." Leia comments as she comes over and hands me a tea. I look up at her with a weird look. "Alpha must have proposed fast after finding you." I roll my eyes at her words.

"It isn't from him." I say harsher than I intend to. She jolts as if I just slapped her in the face.

"Well, that poor man will have his heartbroken when you break it off." I now remember why I hate wolves.

"I don't think he will be considering I don't plan to end the relationship." I wouldn't survive in this world without Lest. He is my rock and my sanity as much as I am his. I feel tears well in my eyes at the thought of loosing Lest.

The sound of shouting and a slamming door end this god forsaken conversation as the doctor and Damon come out. Damon looking exceptionally angry as he followed the doctor over to me. I stand as my come over to me.

"Good evening, ma'am." No one had ever called me ma'am before. It was strange. "I understand you are that man's partner." I nod to his words, hope setting in my heart. "I'm afraid there is nothing I can do to save him. It would take me hours to identify the poison in his system, hours he doesn't have. The damage to his leg is fixable, however the poison is killing his immune system which prevents any kind of healing measures to be taken."

My legs give out from under me as I hear this. The hope in my heart shrivels as my body feels suddenly heavy with anger and grief. The last bit of hope I have dies as I realize that after everything, I'm going to lose him. I feel tears finally leak from my eyes as grief overtakes my body. I place my face in my hands as my body trembles. I try to take a deep breath, but it trembles into my lungs and comes back out as a sob.

I feel arms wrap around me gently, unsure. I toss myself into Damon's large chest, resting my face where Lest's was. The area smells like him which helps to calm me slightly. It calms me enough to use my rational mind and think about everything the doctor told me.

"What if you could identify the poison?" I ask as I push Damon away from me and stand. Damon lays on the floor now looking very confused. The doctor's mouth opens and closes like a fish out of water. "Could you save him is you knew what the poison was?" I ask again more assertive this time.

"Yes." The doctor says with certainty. I turn to look around the room spotting our packs in one corner. I walk over to Jayna's pack as the doctor continues to speak. "But there is no way to identify it in time. Unless you have the source of it hidden away in your pocket." I pull the two long nail ends from Jayna's pack. They are the same neon green as when they were on the devil woman's hands. The woman from the haunted cabin we stayed at where he got the scratches in the first place.

"Here." I hand the doctor the two nail ends. He looks at them in complete confusion. "Use them and save him." I grab the man's hands as I look into his eyes. "Please, save him." I say desperately.

"I will do everything in my power." He says before walking into the room he has Lest in. Damon comes over to me as I wrap my arms around myself.

"You should rest." Damon tells me as he places his hand on my shoulder. He walks me over to the couch and sits me down on it. He kneels before me and holds me hands. "I promise, if anything happens, you'll be the first to know." His words reassure me enough to calm and allow him to lay me down on the couch. Sleep takes over my body quickly.
