Assault

Jayna

The eyes glow in the darkness, the only thing I can make out. I can hear snarling radiating from all around us, chilling me to the bone. Gabie slowly stands from beside me, hands soaked in the blood of the boy as she turns her back to me. Fafnir stands behind me, hands at his sides. His nails have extended into razor sharp points, darkening in colour at the tips.

"I trust you'll have my back dragon." Gabie says, fingers twitching with power at her sides.

"I trust you will have mine." He says lowly in response.

With those words spoken, the garden that was once beautifully decorated with everlasting flowers is turned into a bloody graveyard.

Lest

My feet pound into the ground, further and further away from my friend and lover. I follow behind Damon, barely keeping up with him as we race to his pack border. Without meaning to, I start to fall behind as I gasp for air. My leg is killing me.

I trip over a trees overgrown root, collapsing to the ground feebly. I manage to catch myself. Laying on my back I look up at the night sky, gasping for breath. My leg throbs as I lay in the snow, the frozen water cooling my burning leg. Gabie's gonna kill me when she finds out I pushed myself this hard.

I'm so dazed by the pain in my leg I don't hear the rapid footsteps headed my way.

"Lest!" I hear a voice call as I look up and see a giant rogue bounding towards me. It leaps into the air and is about to land on me when Damon's bare back comes into my view. He has the giant beast by the jaws, fighting it off. I notice another giant rogue rearing up to pounce on Damon.

The bracelet on my wrist I've been wearing since we started this damn trip shifts into a long metal whip. In a fluid motion I swing the whip, wrapping the end around the rouges neck. I roll to gain some momentum, stepping down hard on the whip. The rogue chokes, the whip dragging him to the ground by his throat. He lands with a thud. I snap the whip out to my side, shifting it into a sword.

The rogue shakes off his fall, turning to snarl at me. He snaps his jaws at me as he approaches. I take in a deep breath, the frigid winter air chilling my lungs and throat. The wolf jumps right for me, and I wait for the last second to swing my sword out. With pure force and strength in my swing, I cleave the wolfs head almost clean off. It's blood splatters across me, but I couldn't care less at the moment.

I look up to see Damon standing with the rogue dead beside him. His arms are crossed over his broad chest as he watches my every move with those ice eyes. Worry floods me as I look him over, rushing over to him to get a closer look at his body and face.

"Are you hurt?" I ask breathlessly as I cup his face, moving it in every direction. He just watches me, not saying anything and just studying me it seems. "What?!" I slightly shout, annoyed.

"Did you do all thatbecause you were worried about me?" He asks, tilting his head sideways like aconfused puppy would. My cheeks flush with embarrassment as I stop and actuallylook at our position. And I have to admit to myself, I was worried. Scared evenfor his safety. My mind flashes back to the conversation Gabie, he, and I hadonly a handful of hours before.

"So, you're saying that Gab and I are your soulmates equally?" I ask, confused.

"Yes." Damon says giving an awkward little smile and shrug I can't help but find adorable.

"That's unheard of. It's never happened before." I shake my head, placing my head in my hands. "Stop trying to spare my feelings, it's sweet but stop." I give him a strong look.
