Time
Gabie
I let out a sigh as I fall back into my chair. I look at Lest, his resting features as blonde stubble grows along his jawline. I feel exhaustion weigh on my body, feeling myself sink deeper into my seat. The web of magic around my hands unravels itself as I close my eyes and tilt my head back.
"I hope you wake up soon." I say softly, opening my eyes to look at my hands. "I don't know how much longer I can survive here without you." I lean forward, taking Lest's hand into mine as I draw patterns along the back of his hand. I trace over his knuckles, each white with scars both ancient and new. I follow each tendon of his fingers starting at his knuckle and tracing each individually down to where they meet at his wrist.
"Jayna knows now. About us. Not everything of course, just that you're a hunter and I'm a witch." I sigh as I rest my head beside his hand, studying his scars in close detail. "Apparently you and I are somehow mated to the king of all werewolves. I think you'd laugh seeing the puppy dog eyes he gives you." A pang of pain clenches my heart. I can't help the sadness and jealousy as I think of those puppy eyes, so full of love and concern for only Lest.
"I wish you'd wake upand tell me everything is going to be okay. Hold me the way you always do." Ilet out a tired yawn and promptly fall into oblivion.
~~~~~
Something heavy is placed over my shoulders. It's warm, so warm. And it smells so good. I pull it closer to myself, snuggling deeper into its warmth. The scent and weight are familiar, but I can't tell where from. A soft sigh of contentment leaves my lips as I settle into darkness again.
~~~~~
When I finally awaken from my sleep I am greeted by an empty bed. I pat the bed frantically, looking for anything really.
"Guards?" I call quietly, worry and fear slowly rolling through me in uncontrollable waves. I stand, my chair clattering to the floor as whatever was placed around my shoulders falls to the floor. "Guards!" I scream loudly, my voice quaking with fear. I hear a door open behind me and whip around.
Standing at the door to the bathroom is Lest, in his hospital nightgown on shaky legs. He holds the doorframe for balance. It feels like the world stops when my eyes meet his.
"Lest!" I cry, tears pooling in my eyes and falling down my cheeks. I can't move, my legs stuck in their place as I wipe at my cheeks uselessly. Any tears I wipe away are instantly replaced. Lest quickly limps over to me, crushing me to his chest once he gets to me. I weep into his chest as I fist the material on his chest, so thankful he is finally awake.
"I've got you baby." He whispers to me as he pets my hair, nuzzling his nose into my temple. "I'm right here la mia colomba." He holds me in a fierce grip as I slowly calm down. Thankful he's alive, the stubborn bastard.
"You're going to give me a heart attack one of these days." I laugh as I pull away, wiping my cheeks again. He moves to cup my cheeks, looking into my eyes with his sweet honey ones.
"You know the deal; you're not allowed to leave me because I'll be right behind you." He places a chaste kiss to me lips. I grip tightly to one of his hands and chest, not wanting this moment to end.
The moment, of course, is ruined by someone clearing their throat rather loudly.
I look over the see Damon standing at the door staring at both of us blankly.
"You're both excused." He says harshly, anger clear in his voice as the two guards scurry away and close the door behind them. Lest and I share a look as Damon turns his cold eyes back to us. Of course, he'd be upset to see the lesser mate kissing the superior one. "You should be resting." He says sternly ignoring me completely.
