How Will I Remember?

"Are you okay," someone said from outside my cell. I looked up from my spot, where I had been since I ever could remember. There was a woman, well, girl. She stood there bloody and concerned. Should have been more concerned about herself.

"Y-yes," I called out, not used to my voice. I haven't used it in a while. "W-what happ-ned to you ma'am? Y-your hurt?"

The red haired lady chuckled. "No. No, I am not hurt." She looked at me. "What about you? You were crying."

I was surprised. Usually no one notices me, or pays any attention, even though I send agonizing cries echoing through the cells. She was the first. "I have been here for a long time, so long I can not remember. I cry, but I know that no one will come. No one will call out for me."

The lady looked hurt, pained. Almost as if she was going to cry. "Wh- what? Did I offend you? I am truly sorry."

"No. I...I was in your situation once. I know what you are going through. Anyway, what's your name. I am called Night."

She waited patiently for my awnser. I wanted to awnser her too, I really did. I couldn't though, for I didn't know what it was. "I-I can't. I don't remember what it is. I'm sorry. "

"Pick one then."

"Huh?"

"If you don't have one, pick yourself one. It could be any name. Any." She replied.

"Any one? Really?"

She nodded. "Uh huh."

I thought on that for about five minutes. There were so many names to choose from. Lucy, Nicole, Matt, Jake. So many. Finally, I thought of one.

Night looked at my in anticipation. "So? Did you think of one? What is it?"

"Luca," I said. "Luca."

She smiled. "I like it."

"Really? Thanks!"

"Yeah," she said. "Hey, you can leave, ya'know. There are no guards, and your cell is open."

"Yeah, I guess I could. But I'd have to go get a friend of mine. You can go on."

The lady looked at me, concern on her face again. "No, I couldn't do that."

"Go. Go on. I'll be fine."

It took some coaxing but finally, she left on her own. Before she left through the doors, she turned back and waved. Smiling, I waved back, and turned around to go search for the person I knew best.

I walked down the halls, through the cells and all the rooms. I called for that person, though I didn't know the name. I just called out. Soon, I grew tired. I decided to walk into on last room, before I would rest.

I found a teaddy bear, on the counter. I picked it up. So many emotions came from the bear, especially a sad, hurt one. There was a girl, cowering in fear, running away from some men. They chased her until she reached an alley, where they trapped her in. She cried for her mother, clenching a bear.

As the men drew near, one grabbed the child, making sure she would not move. The others, abused the girl. As she cried out for her mother, for someone, the man holding her clasped his hand over her mouth, muffling the sounds. They beat her, punching, kicking, and everything. Soon her screams grew shorter, and softer, until silence came.

The images were gone, and I had felt tears streaming down my face. The girl...she looked like me. It was scary. That child...she died, and I, I'm alive. Aren't I? I am kind of scared. What was that?

Well, this is...I guess a one-shot chapter. I myself and many others think that this book is revolving too much around Night, and not so much on others. So, I did this, kind of spontaneously. I am sorry that it was short...and confusing...anda bad ending.

Either way, I hope you enjoyed this chapter.

I might make a story on Luca...maybe. But hey, comment yes or no, if you would want to see something like that.
