I could still smell the chloroform when I woke up. Thinking of the dream, I started to cry. In the dream I was back in hospital and I was playing with the children when out of the corner of my eye I saw a boy outside the door wearing a mask. "Huh?"
"What is it Night? Why did you go huh?"
I turned from the boy wearing the mask to Sumi. "Nothing Sumi. Just wondering something."
"Oh yeah, Night? I think Nick needs a diaper change again. He smells funny."
"I'll check," I said. Once I got out of earshot I mumbled, "since no one else has the time or care to."
Once I changed Nick's diaper I left to go back to the playroom with him. That same boy with the mask that almost looked like the Masky from the creepypasta photos and stories online. Hmm, maybe he's cosplaying.
He was looking at me. I walked up to him, "Hello, my name is Night. What's yours?" I switched Nick to my other side and outstretched my hand. He hesitantly took it.
"My name is Mas-. Mak, my name is Mak."
Later that day I was still playing with the children when I saw Tomi in the corner. I walk to her and sat down, "Tomi, what's the matter? Why are you so sad looking?"
"Night," Tomi spoke. She started to cry. "Night, my mother told me I wouldn't be able to come home with her. She said I might not get better." Now Tomi was bawling. She clung to me as she cried, sniffled, coughed, cried, sniffled, and started to cry some more.
I almost started to cry myself. Who would say that to a child.I have to hold them back. No, I'll never cry in front of the children. They'll think they did something wrong and start to cry too.
"Shh shh shh, that's not true. You WILL get better if you just believe you can. Ya know that's how I got better."
Tomi sniffled and rubbed her eyes. "But you were never sick."
Yes I was I said handing her a tissue then pretending to caugh. "See, I still have a little while to go till I get better just like you and everyone else does."
I picked Tomi up and wiped her tears. "Tomi, just leave all your worries with me. It'll be fine. I promise. Besides, you shouldn't be worrying about things like that at your age. Now go play with the other children. It's ok." I then whispered in her ear. "I'll get you a treat for tommorow, don't tell anyone or they'll get jealous, so please cheer up."
Thats when the dream ended. I cried some more. Tomi never got to have the treat. She died early the next morning in her sleep. Her heart was to small for her body, her heart couldn't keep up with her rapid growth. I also knew she didn't have much time left on this earth but for her own parents to tell her "you're going to die." Why would you go and wreck your OWN child's dreams and future.
I decided that I had to stop crying. It wouldn't bring Tomi back. Crying wouldn't bring anyone back. I finally realized what I had to do. I looked around to see if I knew where I was. No fuckin clue. All I knew was I was in a cage. Iron, cold, and sad to say (not really) tempting. Well better than Iron Maidens. Oh well.
It was dark outside the cage. Everything was hard to see except one thing, 2 pairs of glowing eyes. Red and yellow. The yellow eyes came forward.
