19. Oddity

Eddie and Jessie are running for their life. Zombies are rushing toward them.

Jessie freezes their legs. The zombies in front got pushed down and stomped by others behind them.

Stampede.

Eddie unleashes his power and earth wall blocks the zombies from following them.

"Sorry..."

"No more apology. I joined you in my own accord."

They nearly died few times after they left base. Eddie is too stubborn to return.

They are leaving when a man suddenly shows up from one of dark alleys nearby. He snatches away Eddie's bag.

Before Eddie could retrieve it, the guy has eaten a pack of instant noodles raw.

Eddie curses and snatches his bag back. They have met few survivors along the way. They traded goods with them.

It's the first time he met someone this shameless.

Eddie warns, "Don't think you could steal foods anymore. I will fight you."

"Eddie?"

"Huh?"

Eddie is speechless.

Jessie swallows hard. She couldn't believe this beggar man is Ross. His clothes have been tainted too much. The smell is rather strong. He looks like a man just walks out from a gutter.

"Eddie... Eddie... Sorry..."

Ross begins to weep. He felt like a total failure. He made his friends lost their base twice in a row. He failed to protect Val and Darth.

Jessie offers a can of milk. Ross drinks it immediately. He looks like a hungry beggar man.

Eddie asks, "How long you haven't eaten?"

"Three or four days. I lost count."

After eating, Ross looks calmer. He confesses everything to his friends.

Jessie nods her head. Reed is an Alpha. No wonder sometimes he acts very cocky toward her.

Eddie isn't as calm as her. His earth power leaks in his rage. A huge monolith is form.

He rubs his face to gain more focus.

He asks, "He did it, didn't he? Reed killed Wendy..."

"I guess. Reed killed Darth right in front of my eyes."

Jessie asks, "How? By a scratch? Reed is a human. Not a zombie."

"Dunno. He always wears gloves. His fingernails look ugly. Darkened like a zombie's."

Eddie threatens, "He is dead. Reed is mine. I'm going to kill him."

"Count me in," adds Ross.

Jessie nods her head. She feels sad. They just parted. Darth died. Val is missing.

Ross said he fell on top of zombies. That's why his clothes smell awful.

Eddie gives him a set of new clothes.

Jessie makes a big ice cube to wash face and hands.

Few minutes later, Ross looks a bit normal again. They take a short break before continue their journey again.

It's hard to find a safe house in this era. Ross laments their loss. Without Val, they have to collect supplies using bags.

Ross takes another look back. He kept feeling they are followed. No one is behind him. Not even a zombie.
