Kendra – chapter 14

The road was rough, and each bump felt like a tiny earthquake. The dress fell all over the floor of the wedding carriage. The seats felt awfully close, the silks fell on Caldor's knees as well. I was so tired from this long day they could have given us a change of clothes at least, it seemed like they really wanted to get us out of there. But I was grateful that I hadn't spend the night there, it still gave me time. Caldor sat opposite from me, grinning. My stomach clenched and I felt horrid. Caldor must have seen what happened. He reached for my shoulder and gave me a squeeze. A wave of nausea took over me. I had never left the captivity of Esmond until this day. Caldor quickly pulled the curtains at the window down and I saw the quick glance of Kalen's confused face. Caldor asked me if I was ok, and I merely nodded. It was late at night and over an hour or so the pain seemed to vanish away like a broken curse. Slowly at the crack of dawn, sleep took me for a break.

After what felt like 10 minutes Caldor nudged me awake, the sun had risen over the track, and you could spot hares running around the grass. I lifted the crown of my hair slowly. The braid has fallen and there were petals all over my hair. I grabbed a silk ribbon from the pocket of my coat and tied up my hair sleepily. The curtains where wide open and the sun lit up the small room. Slowly we stopped for a break, the horses were tired, and the men were stretching. Kalen opened the door and Caldor left first and gave me his hand so I could come down in ease. My feet were burning because of the heels. We went for a small walk near the trees as the men took their break and the horses drank water. Caldor looked at me with a powerful gaze and insulted my femininity, "Now since we are married Kendra as the husband, I have the say in everything, and you will obey me and send Kalen back to Esmond!" he taunted.

"If you have the say in everything then I don't think this marriage will last very long" I firmly stated. His eyes darkened and as I turned away to go back to the resting sight, he suddenly clutched my wrist with great power. I turned to face him ignoring the pain in my hand as he squeezed it tighter. He chuckled and replied, "who are people going to believe, you over me?" This was the breaking point, my face grew darker fifty shades of red, this led me to slap him across his face, with great speed and power. He stumbled backwards, this didn't but him in his position and he gave me an intimidating gaze, "You would've been dead by now if we weren't in public" he grumbled and he strode back to the resting sight in anger. Each step of his shaking the hares away. I would put him in his place and show him what I really was like. It's time to throw away the mask of love.

It was a struggle riding in the carriage, sitting so close to the emotionless man, I wanted to rip the controlling grin of his face.
