Kendra – chapter 7
Ally ran after me as soon as I left the room. I could hear her heels clicking on the polished white marble as she ran. I however was wearing boots because of my training from before, so I easily glided towards my room in a fast walk. The guards gave me a quick nod and proceeded to open the doors to my chambers, but I couldn't wait a single second, my eye lids felt heavy, and I felt a burning sensation in my throat. I pushed the guards aside and opened the door myself, slamming it shut on the guards' confused faces. Ally came rushing in, her face carried a disturbed look. I ran to my bed and threw my boots at the wall, leaving a smudge of dirt all over the floor. Ally looked shocked but didn't say anything she ran to the toilet and picked up a damp cloth and began wiping. I felt bad for her, so I stood up and squatted down by her side as I grabbed the cloth from her worn out hands. She looked at me deeply, "your dress will get ruined let me do it" she muttered, and she reached for the cloth, I pulled it back and continued wiping the floor, my tears aided in cleaning, as they hit the floor creating small puddles, over the expensive marble. "Go sit on the bed and get a cup of tea for yourself and me to" I requested her, when she didn't move I procced on telling her it was a command, and she got up red in the face and did as I told her. My limbs felt heavy as I stood up and threw the cloth in the bathroom's basin. Fathers' words kept on repeating themselves in my head, I felt a tiny bit dizzy, so I grabbed the bed frame with a shaking hand, as I helped myself sit down. Ally brought the tea over and sat by my side. She squeezed my hand to show she was ready. I opened my mouth to talk but nothing came out. I sighed heavily and drank the tea, it soothed my throat and helped clear my mind. Ally took a sip as well, a very small one and looked up at me, waiting for my words. "I shouldn't have said that right? Father will be so angry" I shuddered, I focused on Ally's hands, I couldn't meet her eyes. I felt her gaze on me.
"You said the right thing, you were right to say so. Your happiness is important above all. Don't cry please don't." she was trying to reassure me, but I didn't know what to say. We stayed quiet for a while; I rested my head on the pillow hugging the cup of tea for warm.
Later, a soft knock woke me up from the brink of sleep, Ally had left, and it was one in the night. I stood up, walking towards the door, my bare feet facing the cold marble. I opened the door, to find Caldor outside, a sheepish smile on his face. I was about to slam the door in his face, but he put his foot forward, stopping the door from closing. "What do you want, do I have to tell my guards to escort you back" I scowled. I bared my teeth at him and looked into his green eyes. his expression changed to something sourer as he asked me "Do you care for Kalen?" I rolled my eyes, as his eyes travelled down me, he stared at me in my thin nightgown. I knew that Caldor only wanted to use me for his own fortune and pleasure, as if I was some artifact he needed to add to his collection. Having me as his love, would make him richer and happier. I could see the greed in his eyes that once were beautiful. So, I decide to ask him something else, "Why do you have such liking for me?" I asked in a sweet tone, convincing him to answer. I tried to make myself look as if I was interested in him and his position. I batted my eyelashes, and I took a step forward. The guards exchanged looks looking confused. He grinned and puffed out his chest, so it was an inch away from mine. He examined me closely as he whispered, "look at you love, who wouldn't want to have you beside them, I have known you since we were children and I ask for no more than you as my lady." For the most part I knew he was telling the truth, but I knew deep down he wanted me for my power and his own pleasure as well. It was true we knew each other as children, he broke my heart when I was 13 and since then I hated him more than anyone I have ever met or heard of. He ran a hand threw his dark curly hair, as he looked down at me. I wasn't that short, it was just that he was so tall, that I had to look up to meet his eyes. I cautiously stepped back and closed the door slowly.
I wouldn't fall for him. He was a player, a user. He thought of me as a toy he could play with. I would show him that I am the coming queen of Esmond.
