Tami 🦋
I sat at the back of the car, my belongings in the booth of the car. We were currently approaching crown lake university and I had this nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach. Derin already left earlier this morning, but my mum wanted to run some errands before taking me to school. The school sent an email explaining the do's and don'ts which we had to abide by, they explained in the email that I'd be given my crest and other crown lake university items like laptop case, book bag, water bottle, pens at the school's student office. My mum was currently driving, the radio playing at a random channel.
Before we left, she had already given me a long speech about being focused and studying really hard and how I should stay away from bad gangs..Typical Nigerian mum advice..
My phone screen flashed showing me that I just got a text message. I opened it to see that it was from Kemi, she came earlier this morning to help me pack.. And we cried in each other's arms already missing ourselves.
It'll take a while before I get to see her again.. she will always be my best friend..
I smiled replying her text, she wanted to know if I've gotten any close to school yet. Tony on the other hand sent me a voice note earlier this morning saying how he already misses me, and jealously told me not to look at any other guy..
Which I was planning to do from the very start..My hair was gelled tightly to the center of my head, with an Afro puff wig attached to it. My mum advised I got that hairstyle so I'll look responsible and she was right..
I did look responsible and cute.. it really suited me.
My outfit was simple, since it was a Saturday I decided to put on a blue ankle length summer dress with a long slit by the right. White sneakers and short ankle socks to complete the look. I already knew that my entire look won't match up to the students there, because I already googled the school and damn! I was no where close to their fashion..
But I can't freak out my mum.. plus I don't have those kind of clothes..We finally got to the large gates of the university, the university's name and logo right on top of the gate. The entrance alone was breathtaking and it felt like I walking into a complete different atmosphere. We were stopped at the gates by sharp looking guards, they looked into the car. My mum showing them our entrance card and they gave a short salute finally allowing us in.
As my mum drove in, my mouth hung open in shock as I stared at the surroundings. This university was insanely large and really beautiful. Trees and flowers were planted along the roads, with small banners welcoming us into the school hung on the street lights..
Crown lake had its own transportation system but most of these students had really impressive looking cars..
Why do I feel like it's a taboo to take the bus in this school?I immediately sent Derin a text that I had already arrived and he replied for us to meet him at the admissions building. My mum smiled proudly at me, exclaiming at how happy she was that I'll be attending this amazing school. We eventually got to the admissions building, my mum finding a good parking spot. I got down from the car breathing in the fresh air and it was amazing, it was so clear..
Honestly, this place felt like I was in a different country or something.. it felt too good to be in Nigeria..
My mother's Corolla car suddenly seemed so small amidst the impressive looking cars that drove and filtered around. I noticed some of the students coming out of the building scanning their entire outfit and poise..
They literally screamed money! You could see it in the way they walked, talked, laughed and dressed. Their entire outfit designer brands and I suddenly felt small in my summer dress.
"Imoh, when is Derin coming?" My mum asked
Derin promised to help me finish with my final admission process, show me to my dormitory and help me around the school.
And my mum was very grateful about that fact..
"He'll said he'll be here really soon" I answered.
Immediately, a black sleek Jeep drove right in front of us. Derin came down, Amos following suit as they both respectfully greeted my mum.
I honestly didn't know Amos was attending crown lake..
