As Brianna walked along the cobblestone road to wherever the hell Zemo was taking them, a pang of sadness hit her. Her mom would have loved the city. They had always talking about taking a trip to the Mediterranean when Brianna turned 30, but here she was at 30 without her mom. She swallowed the burning tears forming in the back of her eyes. She needed to focus on their mission. Not the past. This would make her mom proud, trying to help people. The inside of the apartment was gorgeous. Stone flooring. Carved archways. Pillars inside the opened living room and kitchen. She loved every bit of it.
"Well," Bucky announced as he walked inside the apartment from taking a walk. "The Wakandans are here. They want Zemo. Bought us some more time."
"Were you followed?" Sam asked.
"No."
"How can you be so sure?" Zemo asked.
Bucky poured himself a drink. "Because I know when I'm being followed."
"It was sweet of you to defend me." Zemo said.
Brianna shot Zemo a death glare. "My threat of killing you still stands."
"Sam, Brianna." Bucky walked over to them with his phone. "Karli bombed a GRC supply depot."
"What?" Sam asked surprised. "What's the damage?"
"Eleven injured, three dead. They have a list of demands and are promising more attacks if those demands aren't met." He explained.
"Damnit." Brianna hissed.
"She's getting worse. I have the will to complete this mission. Do the three of you?" Zemo asked.
"She's just a kid." Sam told him.
"You're seeing something in her that isn't there. You're clouded by it. She's a supremacist. The very concept of a Super Soldier will always trouble people. It's that warped aspiration that led to nazi, to Ultron, to the Avengers." Zemo went off on one of his tangents.
Brianna folded her arms across her chest. "Watch it, Zemo."
"So, Karli is radicalized, but there has to be a peaceful way to stop her." Sam said.
"The desire to become a superhuman cannot be separated from supremacist ideals. Anyone with that serum is inherently on that path. She will not stop. She will escalate until you kill her. Or she kills you."
"We're not killing anyone." Brianna told Zemo. "Has much as I hate to admit it, Steve never turned...bad."
Zemo nodded at her. "You're right, but there has never been another Steve Rogers."
Brianna rolled her eyes. "Can't we just give him up now? The only thing he's done is annoy the hell out of us."
"And give up your tour guard, Miss Barton?"
"From my understanding, Donya is like a pillar of the community, right? So, when I was a kid, my TT passed away." Sam began.
Bucky lifted his head from the couch. "Your...TT?"
"Fine. When I was a kid, my aunt passed away and the entire neighborhood got together for a ceremony. It was like a week long. Maybe they're doing the same thing for Donya." Sam proposed.
"Worth a shot." Bucky said.
Before they could leave, Brianna disappeared into one of the rooms to finally change out of the skirt she had been wearing. She had been smart enough to pack a go bag before the mission started. She slipped on a comfortable pair of high waisted, boyfriend style jeans and tucked an earthly green colored button up shirt into it and pulled a pair of slip on shoes. While it was casual, it was comfortable and the flowiness of the shirt allowed her to conceal more weapons.
