The morning, well it wasn't even morning, came too early. Brianna was excited. She just wished the mission could have been put off for a few more hours. It took all the strength she had to get out of bed and begin to get ready. She removed the pajamas that she wore last night and put on a pair of dark, green skinny jeans, black boots and a black t shirt tucked into the pants. She strapped her thigh holster around her leg and placed her sidearm inside of it.
As she gathered her things back into her bag, she could smell something in the air. It almost smelled like...bacon? She was confused as she walked back downstairs to find Sam placing two plates on the kitchen table. She walked closer to the plates and upon further inspection saw a stack of pancakes, a few slices of bacon and some fruit on the plates. In front of the plates were mugs that she assumed were filled with coffee.
Sam looked up as he saw a very tired Brianna. "I didn't know how you took your coffee, but I have cream, sugar."
Brianna's brain was working in hyperdrive as it tried to process what was in front of her. She didn't know if it was because she was tired or if she was that shocked at the scene in front of her.
"You made...breakfast." She spoke softly.
"Yeah. Is it that big of a deal?" He asked confused.
She shook her head. Clearing the thought of Steve away. He had never made her breakfast before. He did cook, but usually just something for himself.
"Uhh, no. I'm sorry." She said as she walked over to sit down. "Sorry. It's just...nice and surprising. That's all. Thank you, Sam."
"It's really nothing. Just some box pancake mix and some already cut up fruit." He said.
Brianna didn't discuss the topic further, but it was a big deal to her. Instead, she just focused on eating so they could start heading to the base. There was no one on the road as they drove. Just streetlights and the stars. However, the base seemed to be bustling with people. She supposed work never stopped for the military. They parked Sam's car before getting out.
The plane they would be taking to Mexico came into view on the tarmac. While a crew worked around the plane making sure it was ready, a group of about twelve men stood around while one men, she assumed the man in charge, spoke to the group. His eyes landed on Sam and Brianna and he nodded at the two of them.
"Joining us today will be former pararescue, Sam Wilson and Agent Brianna Barton with SHIELD." He explained. "Let's make them feel welcomed and show them how it's done."
While the men gathered their things and walked up the ramp of the plane, the two of them approached the man.
"It's been a while." The man said before giving Sam a hug.
"It's has. Brianna, this is Master Sergeant Blane Wallace. We served on a few tours together. Blane, this is obviously the amazing, Brianna Barton." Sam introduced the two of them.
Blane looked to be around Sam's age, but had brown hair styled perfectly. He didn't look like the type of guy to be in the military. She shook his hand. "Thank you for allowing us to tag along."
"Anything for Sam and his friends." Blane said.
"Well," Brianna said as they walked inside the plane. "Maybe you have some embarrassing stories to tell me about Sam."
"Oh, I think I know a few." He said and winked at Sam. "Make yourself comfortable. You'll know when we land in Mexico."
They both nodded before taking their seats. The first flight was spent catching up on sleep. Sam and her barely said a word to one another until they arrived in Mexico only a few hours laters. The group would be split up and put on two different helicopters. The whirling from the helicopter as they all loaded inside was almost deafening. She took her seat next to Sam and buckled her seatbelt before being handed a headset so she could communicate with everyone.
